hello brother iboaters in drydock.
it's been a while since my last update, so i thought it was time to post again.
i've gotten a few things done in the past few months, and now i'll share.

front half of main frame glassed.

grinding foam sux almost as much as grinding 'glass.

foam finished...almost. i ran out, so didnt have quite enough to fill the area next to the fuel cell where the hoses are.

dry fitting the deck.

this is how to seal the fuel hoses going thru the deck.
i solved this dilemma by building a box around them for the height, then made a top with holes for the hoses to run thru.
the hoses will be sealed with 3m marine adhesive and this should completely seal this area.

the box is glued down, then a few screws just to be sure, and then it will be glassed before gelcoat.

i have gotten more work done since these were taken, but have not transferred them to my pc yet.
i will update again when time permits.


progress has been slow, but i am beginning to see the light at the end of this tunnel.

its amazing how a couple years gets by before you know it...
havent done anything in the last year or so, but wanted to post to say this rebuild is still in-progress. :)

hmm I thought the fuel hoses had to be exposed for inspection from cg if you get boarded I had ran mine through 2" flex pipe and thought I had done nice job of hiding them then friend told me they had to be visible for inspection ugh

from what i understand, they only have to verify marine-grade fuel hose. i made sure the id could be seen on the hoses.

original was ran the same way, but not as good as i did it. ;)

Hello fellow iBoaters.
its been a while, so im gonna try to condense the previous 5 years as best i can.

not quite a month after my previous post, on August 12, 2016, we experienced a major flood.
i woke up friday morning to ~4" water in my doublewide trailer that was 38" AGL.

Of course, the first thing i though of was the engine i had sitting on a trailer next to the boat! it was completely under, and i could only see the top of the tarp that was covering it. Then i remember i was still waiting on materials to finish glassing in the new deck of the boat....i had raw wood exposed!

just kidding....i didnt even think about the boat...i had to get family out.
we're all fine and there was no problems. 5 of us with 11 weeks in a hotel sucked, in case anyone was wondering.

fast forward to Oct, 2019.
i knew my 'new'4.3 was gone....it was completely under.
however, i never drained the water out of my engine, so it was 'sealed' from air/rust. it still had a bit of water in the carb (3 years later), so the whole thing was still full. after draining it out, i was able to turn the crank over, so i hadnt lost it, like i thought. turns out the water kept the air away, so there was no rust on any of the internals.
quick cleanout of carb, water, old oil, and a bit of blowing out passages, and it fired off. first fire-off after cleanout (youtube)
after that, i spent some time pulling it apart and rebuilding, since i knew it was still good.

fast forward to last month, october of 2021.
its been on my mind, as that project i never completed. i knew all my 'new' wood in the boat was gone, as i didnt finish sealing it before the flood, but to complete it, i'd have to demo everything i put in, get down to bare hull, and start over. i have almost 10 years in it now, though it sat for a long while. if i pull it apart, i'll know for sure just how good my glass job was.
i knew the deck wasnt complete, but was stronger than i had thought.

i did find out my idea of how to seal the stringers to the deck didnt work. i also realized i never capped the stringers. woops.
in the above pic, those sides were the tabbing from deck to hull. most of it held pretty good, for running out of resin. lol

as a side note, the owner/title problem i mentioned years ago (feb 2012) is solved. the owner died a couple years ago from cancer, so the boat is considered abandoned. we spoke a few times, but never came to any agreement. however, as it's been in my possession for 10 years, i can claim it and have no trouble with title and registration now.

so, with that said, i think this project will be back on.
dont hold ya breath, as it will be slow, but i plan to update occasionally.

Hello iBoaters.
it has been a while, but today was the day.
i finally splashed this thing.
have lots of pictures of the (second) rebuild, and am uploading video of first run, which was cut short because the manifolds got hot. i have no idea why yet.

anyway, just wanted to post the news.
it has been almost 14 years, but this project is done.

as i run it more, i may have more to do but for now im very happy with it's current status.

too bad iboats picture hosting is down...i've lots of pictures.

forgot to mention i blew out a tire on the way home. was about 5min from the ramp on the interstate (I-55) and in a spot i couldnt easily stop so ran it anyway. took over 2 hours to get home. destroyed rim. woops. lol
i stopped about 30m from home and took this...

Congratulations. That's about how my splash day went; some mechanical trouble with the boat followed by catastrophic trailer failure.
Hopefully it all goes better each time to take it out. You are over the initial hurdle, at least.
I can't see the pictures. It says to request access. It might be because of the firewall here at work, though.

40 miles after tire blowout

also looked into why things were getting hot.
they weren't. i have wrong temp sending unit. checked on muffs with ir gun and engine parts are all 140-150 with gauge showing 220+.

have some (very) boring video of the maiden voyage on youtube.
low water, basic low-speed trials, other misc tests and no editing all led to very vanilla video.
3 parts because gopro limit is 4gb and i cant merge video.

Thanks mate! i remember reading your rebuild thread. dont remember if i posted on it or not...probably not, as i wasnt very active then.
yeah, 15 year old tires weren't the best option for a maiden voyage, but c'est la vie.

On a tandem axle trailer, I've seen people use a ratchet strap to hold one axle end up near the frame to keep the rim off the pavement.
Thanks for posting maiden voyage video. That is a defining moment that is rarely very cinematic. You just have to capture it because you will never re-live that moment.

yeah, i thought about the ratchet strap trick, but the rear tire is old also, and i didnt want to put too much pressure on it before i got home. half trailer weight is over limit for single tire on this one anyway. i knew the rim would be no good when it blew cause i was on interstate bridge and couldnt stop, so just ran with it hoping it would carry some weight...and it did. :)
you are 100% correct with the maiden voyage video. im glad i got it, but should have put the camera in a different spot.
no matter, cause i enjoyed myself.
