I am converting my 1990 Johnson 150 to system check a piece at a time. I've got everything except a new oil tank sender.

The alarm is beep-beep-beep with the engine off and stone cold.
If I disconnect the oil tank or VRO sender it stops. The local shop said I need to replace both of them to the tune of $550.
Are they both bad or is just one of them bad?
