91 Johnson 150 wiring questions

Here is a picture of the wiring diagram from my 91 Cross V engine.

What is the bullet connector for at 1?
What is the part shown at 2?

Why is a four wire VRO shown? I thought that in 91 they all had a 3 wire?

The four (4) wire VRO upgrade has existed for many years. Just something that go by you somehow.

The bullet fitting is most like the plug in sensor lead for the oil tank warning level.

2 = Primer solenoid (Missed this previously)

Thanks for the answers.

My engine has a 3 wire VRO which is why I was asking. I wonder why?

For some reason I thought that the 4 wire VOR came in with the advent of System Check in 96.

The 4 wire VRO existed for some time prior to 1991... perhaps someone installed a older VRO on that engine? What is the engine model number as requested by Dhadley?

The 3 wire VRO had a false warning problem. The 4 wire VRO eliminated that problem.

OK, got it.

The engine is a Johnson 150 Sea Drive. There is no model number on the engine. It's not the original engine. According to the previous owner, the original 115HP blew up and was replaced with a rebuilt 150. I have taken pictures of it that you can see here >> http://harbortec.net/johnson150/

Here are the part numbers I found so far.
Power Pack 58043
cylinder head 328325
head cover 32800
soft plug 392868


My local shop has looked at it and they think that it's a 1991 90Deg Cross V. So, I got a manual for one a few days ago and it looks like a match to me. There are some details that don't match because my engine is a Sea Drive and i'm guessing that the whoever did the rebuild used what ever parts they had around which probably explains the 3 wire VRO.
