I have a 91 Johnson 150 90 Cross V that I would like to convert to System Check. I need to replace my VRO, tach and oil tank pickup/sender unit anyway so I might as well make the conversion. I will replace my 3 wire VRO with a 4 wire VRO. The question is these all these parts have probably gone through some changes between 1996 when they first came out and now. Should I just get the 1996 parts or some later year?

Re: System Check Conversion

The '98 Johnny 150HPV6 J150EXECD has the System Check capability. You might start looking up the OMS pump, vacuum sensor and oil tank sender.

The System Check gauge tests for low oil, No oil, overheat, and fuel restriction(vacuum sensor). You might find that your oil tank sensor is acceptable for use. The temp senser is likely OK as well.

OK, thanks for the info.

Do you know if OMC made any improvements to System Check components, VRO, oil tank, tach, etc since 1996 or 98?

Re: System Check Conversion

I do not know if improvements were made. I think OMC expanded the model that had the system check however. If you find the OMS pump on the '98 has the same part number as the OMS pump on the newer models, the answer is that you will get the latest and greatest......

OK, thanks.

It does seem that Johnson/BRP does a good job of maintaining an up to date parts list with the latest parts that supersede the old ones.

I have found that they have made improvements to the OMS pumps over the years even after 98.
