    Boat purchase during Northern winter

No worries, and I apologize if my language was salty. You have nothing to gain with this deal and everything to lose. I would move one. With a few exceptions, on the whole, the boating market has been down and it's a buyers market. Wait until spring, find 3 or 4 boats that you like and are...

    Boat purchase during Northern winter

Surveyor here..... There is more that can go wrong than can go right during a limited trial run. What if the boat leaks? Is 10% of the purchase price enough to correct deficiencies? If the boat blows an engine during the limited trial run, then what? (it happens) Buying a boat is about one...

1998 Sea Ray 250 Sundancer... rain intrusion driving me nuts

Is your boat taking on water afloat, with the boat on the hard, or both?

1998 Sea Ray 250 Sundancer... rain intrusion driving me nuts

For all intents and purposes, boats 20 feet and longer are supposed to. And you are correct, these are a common leak point.

1998 Sea Ray 250 Sundancer... rain intrusion driving me nuts

When we I inspect boats that sink, we figure out how water gets into the boat by spraying everything with a garden hose to see where the leaks are. As simple as that sounds, I would start there. (obligatory additional comment that the garden hose test does not rule out bellows or transom leaks)

    Proper Boat Grounding

It will be easier to understand if you separate the word/term ground and give that 1 specific definition and then use a different term called something along the lines of return path to the source, which is different than the generic term of "ground".

    Proper Boat Grounding

ABYC E11 states 11.5.2.2 DC GROUNDING SYSTEMS AND BONDING - A metallic hull, or the bonding and DC grounding systems, shall not be used as a return conductor (see FIGURE 4A-B, FIGURE 5 , and E-11.16). In a boat, for both corrosion and also electronic shock drowning reasons (if the boat also...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I just double checked and it looks like you are correct, SST for inspected vessels only. While checking, per ABYC H-5 and USCG, the capacity rating may need some consideration. Out of curiosity, does your vessel have a capacity plate from the manufacturer on it now?

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Clearly you have put a ton of thought and effort into this. Just curious though if you have given any thought as to whether the vessel is going to pass the simplified stability test after the project is complete or not? If you are not familiar with it, here is a link to it -...

    Suzuki DF200AP will not idle

I took a look. OP is right. On this specific engine, there is no IAC; the idle is controlled by the electronic throttle body.

    Boat values

Here are some comps for 2000 through 2002 Sundancer 320's. I didn't review them all to see what they had in terms of power, but this would give you an idea.

    Suzuki DF200AP will not idle

If the engine will run at a higher RPM, and stay running at a higher RPM, but not idle, it's usually the idle air control valve, which regulates the engine's idle speed. Have to connect the engine to the scan tool to be sure, though.

The other thing to add is that most of you do not have access to Soldboats.com, which is similar to an MLS for houses. Soldsboats tells you the asking price, selling price, days on the market, and the location. But it does not tell you the condition. When getting into appraisals, when you...
