    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I just double checked and it looks like you are correct, SST for inspected vessels only. While checking, per ABYC H-5 and USCG, the capacity rating may need some consideration. Out of curiosity, does your vessel have a capacity plate from the manufacturer on it now?

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Clearly you have put a ton of thought and effort into this. Just curious though if you have given any thought as to whether the vessel is going to pass the simplified stability test after the project is complete or not? If you are not familiar with it, here is a link to it -...

    Suzuki DF200AP will not idle

I took a look. OP is right. On this specific engine, there is no IAC; the idle is controlled by the electronic throttle body.

    Boat values

Here are some comps for 2000 through 2002 Sundancer 320's. I didn't review them all to see what they had in terms of power, but this would give you an idea.

    Suzuki DF200AP will not idle

If the engine will run at a higher RPM, and stay running at a higher RPM, but not idle, it's usually the idle air control valve, which regulates the engine's idle speed. Have to connect the engine to the scan tool to be sure, though.

    Boat values

The other thing to add is that most of you do not have access to Soldboats.com, which is similar to an MLS for houses. Soldsboats tells you the asking price, selling price, days on the market, and the location. But it does not tell you the condition. When getting into appraisals, when you...

    Boat values

I'm a surveyor and part of my job is performing unbiased appraisals, which hold up to scrutiny in court. Are you looking at a boat or a yacht? Do you plan on having it surveyed? The book values are just the opinion of the book value company. They aggregate data, sprinkle their fairy dust on...

    Mercury Outboard vapor separator problem

The tube at the bottom of the VST is a drain tube. There is a screw that you tighten and loosen which allows fuel to drain. If that is leaking, then either the screw is damaged, the body of the VST is damaged, or both.

No Center Attachment for Hauling onto the Trailer

DO NOT use those eyes on the front of the sponsons for anything other than attaching tie-down straps to, when trailering. They are not designed to withstand a lateral pulling force, and there is a good chance you will break the welds. I've seen it many times, and most modern pontoon boat owners'...

Engine wouldn't fire without throttle after overnight

The injectors will always leak down. The rule of thumb as to whether the leakdown rate is to much is to use 2 PSI per 10 minutes on a hot engine, not a cold engine. What I would do is go use the boat, get the engine hot. Shut it off, hook up the fuel pressure gauge. Start the engine again and...

Need help: Bizarre Bravo III freshwater galvanic corrosion quandry

Happy to hear you figured it out. BTW, for all intents and purposes, AC stray current is generally not an issue for electrolytic corrosion in the marine enviorment. While AC stray current can cause electrolytic corrosion, it takes AC stray current a year to cause the same corrosion damage that...

Need help: Bizarre Bravo III freshwater galvanic corrosion quandry

I'm an ABYC-certified corrosion technician, and here are my two cents.... You need to get a silver/silver chloride reference cell and throw it overboard and see what you get for readings. Anything other than that is guessing at things. If your anodes are NOT corroding, that would point to...

Alpha 1 gen 2 bellows service

There is nothing in print other than "inspect yearly". The rule of thumb is that if they are OEM bellows and not aftermarket, 5 years is the expected life span. When they fail, it will start as a slow leak that will get exponentially worse as the tears grow in size.

If you're wondering if your anti siphon valve is stuck, or clogged, here's a test....

See my blurb in May's issue of Trades Only Today - https://tradeonlytoday.com/columns-blogs/knowledge-is-power/ I was quoted as writing, "Jason says he often finds that in the marine service trade, skill and effort are inconsistent, but he believes the industry can do better." What I actually...

If you're wondering if your anti siphon valve is stuck, or clogged, here's a test....

The ABYC standard, which is the esentially same as the CFR, just reworded, and more strict says: 24.15.10 Fuel distribution systems shall be provided with anti-siphon protection by keeping all parts of fuel distribution and return lines above the level of the tank top from the tank to the...

If you're wondering if your anti siphon valve is stuck, or clogged, here's a test....

It rotted out from the inside out. The boat builder (who shall be nameless) put the filter in the worst possible spot. I don't think the technicians knew it was even there. I didn't see it until I took an angle grinder to the boat and personally cut the splashwell out of the boat. What's...

If you're wondering if your anti siphon valve is stuck, or clogged, here's a test....

I would be careful. If your fuel system is designed in a specific way, some form of antisiphon protection is federally required, be it a valve or a solenoid. I recently completed an investigation on an insurance claim where the boat, outboard powered, started and ran fine on a Monday. On...

If you're wondering if your anti siphon valve is stuck, or clogged, here's a test....

https://forums.iboats.com/threads/how-to-testing-your-boats-fuel-system.278553/ I wrote that back in 2008. That will tell you how to test it. The only caveat is that it was really written for older inboard carbureted engines. On all modern-day EFI/DFI/HPDI/GDI engines, you really don't want to...
