    What is a sneeze ?

I know it's caused by a lean condition but what is happening to make the motor sneeze ? Thanks

Need help with 1986 150 hp.

I have problems with the motor sneezing during start up and have done a search and realize it's because of a lean condition. The sneeze as infrequent as it is blows out the seal at two of the bypass covers. The gaskets are fine they just no longer seal. When I replaced the gaskets last time I...

Gas/oil mix running down midsection/lower unit

I'm pretty sure this has been asked before but my search turned up nothing. I checked the carb floats and all my fuel lines and their all good, floats adjusted properly. This is not a small amount, midsection is pretty much covered and it puddles on the cavitation plate. 1986 Johnson 150...

    Some prop advise needed

I have a 16' Wellcraft Airslot w/hull weight of 1060 lbs. powered by a 1986 Johnson 150, j150tlcdc. Total weight with 2 aboard should be abt. 1800 lbs. Existing prop is omc 389924, 14 1/2 x 19. The motor is mounted 2 holes up putting the cav plate 1" up from the hull bottom. The motor will turn...

    1986 johnson 150 crankshaft seal

I pulled the power head to fix a exhaust leak between it and adapter plate and found there was a piece of the lower crankshaft (where the driveshaft goes in) that's missing. This is below the splined area but still where the lower portion of the seal rides. It ran like this all last season so...

    Pitch + cup ?

I have a stainless Michigan prop that's cast into the hub 14 1/4 x 19 and it's cupped. So does the 19 include the cup or do I add 2" for the cup ? If it makes any difference the prop is on a 1986 Johnson 150 J150TLCDC. Thanks in advance Dennis

    Less pitch or not ?

I posted a similiar question about a week ago on the outboard forum and two posters said I should drop 2" pitch. I have a 16'4" Wellcraft Airslot with a hull weight of 1060 w/o mtr. powered by a 1986 Johnson 150 J150TLCDC with a 14 1/4 x 19 stainless cupped prop. The cav. plate is even with...

    I'm at a loss

I have a 16 ft. Wellcraft Airslot that is now powered by a 1986 Johnson 150 (I know it's overpowered) running a 14 1/4 x 19 stainless prop. The boat performs beautiful, but, when accelerating from 2800 rpm to wot it's like a rocket, It'll push you back in your seat, but 5000 rpm is as high as...

    Johnson 150 leaking oil ?

I have a 1986 Johnson 150 that was recently rebuilt (just started breaking it in) that has oil running down the lower unit after running on earmuffs for a few minutes. I'm running 25:1 premix for break in, so is this the excess oil that is not getting burnt ? I've checked the lower unit oil...

    150 hp Johnson fuel supply

The mechanic that sold the motor to me said it required a 3/8" fuel line, but looking at the quick connect to the portable tank there's just no way that small opening is going to flow as much as 3/8 line. What am I missing here ?
