    Tachometer choice

    I have a 1973 Mercury 500--50 hp--2 stroke --4 cylinder outboard.I have a tachometer sitting in the basement that shows 0 to 6000 rpm and has 2 ,4,6,and 12 pole settings.It has red,black,blue,green and white wires coming out the back.Can this tach be used with the above mentioned outboard?

    1973--500 mercury--50 Hp

    My 1973 -500--50 HP mercury is missing the zinc trim tab fin above and to the rear of the prop.Would this play a part in the boat not planing properly.Seems to take forever.

    1961 40 Hp Johnson 2 Stroke

    When I got this motor only the #1 plug was firing and #2 had no spark.Pulled flywheel and narrowed it down to bad set of points on #2.Changed points and gapped both #1 and #2 to 0.20 as stated.Now both plugs firing and started motor up.Runs rough unless you give it a little gas.Water muffs on...

    Question

    I have a mercury 50 hp 2 stroke 4 cylinder motor and want to test it with muffs.When the muffs are on and water pressure is applied should water be coming out of the pee holes while it is not running or does water only come out when the motor is running.
