1973--500 mercury--50 Hp

My 1973 -500--50 HP mercury is missing the zinc trim tab fin above and to the rear of the prop.Would this play a part in the boat not planing properly.Seems to take forever.

In answer to you Q, no. The missing zinc will allow the steering to pull a bit, but will have no effect on the planing time or top speed.

You need to see that all cylinders are firing and have good compression.
