Just thought I'd add my current restore project into the mix. Here is my 1978 Glastron Carlson CVZ-18 that I just picked up. Price was right, and I love this model & design.

Here's a couple pictures to start with:

You going to take out the foam?

I'm going to replace it, but, not this year. I need to get new pictures up, I have completely redone the floor of the last couple of weeks, it was a mess!

Pictures:

Old floor...4x8 sheet or plywood with 4 screws holding it to the stringers (total)...and some really *cool* rubber pieces to make it look good:

Frisco - I think your motor is in a little better shape than mine!

I don't think water is a good idea!

I was able to at least get the motor to turn again...

Nice looking boat.
What's the power plant for it, is it the 3.0 L ?

The stringers were ok about 1 inch down...they were fiberglassed well to the hull, so they didn't sit in water.

What I did was build parallel support stringers, then individually fiberglassed them, then fiberglassed them together and added additional supports for the floor. Everything is fiberglassed together, and I couldn't budge them if I wanted too.

Starting to tie them all together:

Once everything was glassed to the hull, I wrapped it all together:

Sandwiched the bow area support:

Added foam. It will keep everything a bit quieter when underway:

I also added a plywood 'cap' to the stringers, and used resin & fiberglass + ss screws to lock it all in:

Outdrive - CL deal for $150

Floor almost in:

Mixed my own filler to sandwich between layers of glass to bridge the gap from the floor to the hull.

Fiberglass on top and smoothed over. I will have sanding to do in the spring.

I'm not sure if it comes out in this shot, but I added a center dip to the floor. Any water that gets in the boat *should* drain to the center and then back to the bilge.

I can't wait to yank all the McD's 70's upholstery...which isn't even original...someone had to a) choose it & b) actually pay $ for it....yuk!

There are supposed to be 2 bucket seats....not that 3/4 bench in front!

In the earlier pic it looked like a 4 cylinder engine to me. That's why I ask.
Thanks

Yeah, it does doesn't it...here's what I found when I pulled one of the heads off. I'm still debating on whether to rebuild it or not...I paid $75.00 for it, but really wanted the exhaust manifolds that were attached to it:

Wow Dorelse,
I thought it looked bad enough from the bottom view. That top view really looks bad. I would seriously consider buying a short block for it before rebuilding that one. At least you didn't sink to much into it yet. I wish you luck, Have you looked on CL for a different engine? Well, keep us posted.
Have a good day.

So...its time to take the transom bracket off and order out a new gasket set to seal it up again.

How do I tell what model it is? I can't find anything besides the top sticker, which says 'Power Trim' and that little stamp in the picture, which says:

S-1

Any guidance? I was thinking this one, but would like confirmation!!!

That kit does not have the seal for the gimble if that is what you are looking for. To me it looks like a black garden hose. Our drives are "pre-alpha) as I have heard it referred to. Did you check your transom for rot? My Glastron's lower half of the transom was shot. Check out my thread.

Of course I'm watching your thread! You've answered some of my questions!

According to the guys on the CGOAMN site, it appears to be the right kit...but...I suppose the thing to do is to pull it off and match up the pieces.

We're definitely pre-Alpha...but based on the parts listing, there are several 'pre-Alpha' models...so who knows which one!
