So with the new epoxy mixed with 6oz of pigment vs 4 oz and two coats later you can see the difference.

Washed with vinegar, then sanded with 220, and a wipe down of acetone (Not shown) before painting new coats as it had been a week since my last coat

You can see the difference between earlier coats and transparency vs now

Will be pulling the cover off tonight. We will let it cure for a week before putting her back on the trailer.

The SF should make for a long lasting and tough protective finish. I just wish it could be sprayed on, I suck at using rollers and brushes.

Tell me about it. All in all it wasn't to bad, but will see how it holds up over time. See if my prep was good enough or if the SE was needed.

On another note, got the boat back on her trailer!!!!

Then my dad noticed that a couple sections were tacky........ :faint2::faint2::faint2::faint2:

Appears only to be areas that were covered with blue painters tape (White line above splash guard and blue), but I wouldn't think that would have done anything. I am going to put a heater in the garage tonight and see if that improves it and finally gets it to fully cure. If not, then I should be able to cover with paper and hit it again with a tad of extra hardener.

All in all happy with how everything has turned out. Planning on going to the big box store in the next week to get wood for flooring!!!!! Kept the old floor so I will have a template.

Oh man tacky is a bad word, getting anything to cure in a timely manner this time of year is a pain but I don;t know that adding more will help out the situation. I would apply heat and maybe a fan to circulate the air around the boat.

Ya, not feeling to good about. It was the final coat.... Been sitting at work doing a lot of research and fretting. Everything else dried fine expect those areas and some on the transom. I really hope the heater will do it and something just needs to be baked out

She really looks great sitting on the trailer..
I am not familiar with the paint you used, but I agree with watermann.. I would not add more over the tacky paint.. The heater may do the trick. I would not rush it.
If you get a good sunny day you could pull her out in the sun. The aluminum will heat up fast with a little sun..
Hope it works out with just the heater..:encouragement:

So heater didn't work.....

But good news I figured it out. Its left over adhesive from the painters tape. Using goo gone I am able to remove it. It will take some time, but shouldn't be bad at all. Felt a lot better last night once I realized what it was. Kept questioning myself on how I could have missed tacky epoxy paint when i was taping.

Going to the big box store when I get off to get a large bottle of goo gone.

That is good news.. Mineral Spirits will take off the left over residue also.. A lot of body shops use it..

Thanks guys, I will have to remember the Frog tape for future painting. Had the blue stuff from painting the house....

I think I may have found a premade Moeller tank that will work under the floor; however, my question is, do I have to be in compliance with the EPA requirements regarding the Carbon Canister? The tank I am looking at has all the proper hook ups, but wondering if they are needed if I don't.

FWIW, in the future try 3M 233+ green tape, I've had cars in my shop for months with it stuck to windows, usually comes off clean every time.

Boat is looking sharp!!

I put a new tank in my SS this year and didn't even think about someone looking in my boat for an EPA can  I believe that EPA reg is for manufacturers not us back yard types.

I'm reading what is said at this website Perko Fuel Systems Website. It says the standard is set at the 2010 Model Year. It also appears to be a standard set for Manufacturers, however, there is a part where manufacturers are instructed to inform "someone else who installs" that they must follow the regulations or be in violation of 40 CFR 1068.105(b). If you read that (40 CFR 1068.105(b)) it says it is applicable to the given Model Year(s). My take is that it doesn't apply to you unless your engine is manufactured after 2010. All of the language is really leveled toward manufacturers and they probably don't care what an enthusiast does. From what I've read, I wouldn't worry about it unless my engine was manufactured in 2010 or after. If it was I would call the EPA and ask them directly if it applies to me. If/When they said no, I would ask where that is in writing. There is a link to a waiver for all of this on the Perko website, meant for small manufacturers. Or call the Coast Guard or State DNR and ask them about it. They are the ones who inspect your boat.

Thanks guys, that what I kind of figured, but wanted to ask.

Got my wood and foam. Started ripping stuff down today and glued pieces together to start on the Transom. Will post pictures later. Need to order some more blind rivets for the gunwales and for general assembly

Was a long week and didn't get nearly as much done as I had hoped, but with the holidays it happens. What I did finish, and remembered to take photos of, are below:

Transom glued together and being cut to final size

Transom cut to size - Transom cut to size

Wood flooring added. Used BCX 23/32 sheets
Flooring being fitted - Flooring being fitted

Wanted to make a suitable tie off point for an anchor on the bow as well as being comfortable standing on it if I needed to while fishing. So I glued two scrap sheets together like I did for the transom and then routed/sanded to get the proper fit. Now I should have a stable platform to add an 8 inch cleat as well as stand if needed.

fetch

Since the update to the site, having some difficulty adding photos..... Looks like I have to upload and then drag in. Uploads are still good quality but the drag in are grainy

On other notes, sent in my measurements to Moeller Marine to see if they can help with fabrication of a tank. Will be interesting to see if they can with how small an area I have to work with. Also, should be getting my order of blind rivets in today. Going to temporarily install the gunnels so I can get some measurements before taking it back out. Going to be gluing some Nautolex to the sides to give it a finished look and figure it will be easier to install without having to work around the gunnels.

Question: What kind of glue do ya'll recommend? See many people say just big box store vinyl glue is good enough.

I think Moeller will make anything you want them to, it's just the amount of fuel vs the cost,

I used 3M 80 for my SS and the regular contact cement on my Chief. The 3M 80 is much better but you pay for it.

Looked at the 3M stuff and didn't realize it could be used for our purposes. Have used the 80 before on foam to foam, but may try the 90. Looking at a 3M chart they recommend a 3M 98 but only place I found I can buy it is HD. HD requires it to be special delivered and charge as much for 3 cans as it would to ship. Will have to mull that one over and decide if it is worth it.

Watermann : Do you remember how long it took for Moeller to get back with you? I know its only been a couple days and holidays but as always, impatient. LOL
