1952 14ft DuraCraft Resto

Picked up a new 14 footer to get back on the fishing grounds....... but it's not a Starcraft, its a DuraCraft. :blue: I fully accept being downgraded to second class, honorary, double secret probation Starmada member.

Guy traded the boat and $100 for my shanty and some other ice fishing gear. Couldn't pass up the deal. Got the trailer last night for $175, its in really nice shape. Just need to find a motor now. Very mild resto planned.

Pretty sure this was a prototype for the civil war ironclads..... sloped sides for cannon ball deflection.

We've all owned other brands... tin is tin. Except for the old mirror craft in my sig line! And the price was right! Are those large dents in the starboard bow area?

No dents, hull is actually in pretty good shape. That quality camo paint job makes it look really rough.

ashamed? i love it! none of us would admit it, but that barrelback out-cool's most of our boats. i thought Merrimac too when i saw the pix.....or was it The Wehrmacht's Assault Bobsled?

bet it's not top heavy AT ALL with that getup, eh?

bet it's already breathing easier that it ended up with a nice new human who won't play Dr Moreau with it.

She has sexy curves don't she? All that firewood attached was for duck hunting purposes. Dude took this out on lake Erie. He had a interesting story about a huge storm that blew in while he was out. Took a huge wave over the bow. Dog was sitting up front and ended up on his lap freaking out and biting him. Almost sunk her, 6 boats went down that day. Think the Edmund Fitzgerald was one of them.

Hey, I recognize that boat:

It's a pretty stout boat, but it's had quite a bit of the insides & cap hacked off. :blue: Bummer......

Looking forward to seeing how you tear it down & build it back.....

Very cool JB, reading through your project now. Wondering if this one was hacked up or if DuraCraft made a utility version? Sure Ill know more once I get all this wood off the top, top edge should have all the old holes if so.

I suspect it's been modified:

Transom looks JUST like mine. Handles, shape, solid 'trim' across the top of the plywood transom all matches the details of mine....

I'm not ashamed of the boat at all, just love my Starcrafts. As long as its not a glasser is the important part.

You're ready for Civil War reenactments this summer. Got an old uniform in the attic?

nice little duck boat there....its got the side up for hiding.... you really should flip it to a duck hunter and start with something closer to what you want.... it is certainly a deal for what you into it just for a duck boat alone....

She may be a muggle, but I like all those old round-back boats. The Mad Max, duck hunter look is cool too. Looks battle ready Besides, in the end a tinnie is a tinnie. I mean it's not like you went full Benedict Arnold and got a glasser. LOL! What is the overall plan? Tiller vs. Helm? New vs Vintage motor?

If you decide to further remove the bow cover, let me know. There might be a Duracraft handle that might be of some interest to some.

Appears to also have had a 'factory/dealer' modification to a bow deck mounted fuel fill. It was likely to a tank suspended under the bow cap, similar to mine, just a bit different location then mine on the bow deck.

I flipped a Duracraft last year. It was a 1952. Really stout boats.

Have you found a tag or stamped numbers yet?

That had to weigh a ton, looked overloaded just sitting there.

Get her down to a blank canvas and you can build what you want - You're almost there. I think she has too much added flotation, but maybe the PO was relying on the wooden armor to keep her afloat.

Are the sides of the hull sturdy with the gunnels missing (I assume by looking at JB's)?
