1969 North American 15ft w/ 1969 Chrysler 55HP... my first boat (actually, for my lil' 5 & 4 y/o boys!)

1969na.jpg

Wow, my dad had that exact boat, only in fire engine red. Bought it new in 69 with a 55hp Evinrude. Upgraded to a 100hp in 1972. Blew a hole in the head sometime in the early 80's, so we replaced the power head with a 125hp Johnson (used Evinrude casing due to it being rated at 100hp)...engine was bored out to around 133hp. That thing would fly. Mid-50's with only about the back 6 inches of the hull touching the water. I'd "fly" it across waves and have people tell me the prop was a foot out of the water. If it would have had power trim we're thinking low 60's.....that thing was a blast, I'd love to get it back, it was still within 30 miles or so of us a couple years ago, but I've lost touch with it since then.

Good job so far, tistore. You should start a thread and keep us informed on your build.

Re: Tri-Hull Club...Yes? No? Maybe?

I just installed a float switch for my bilge so I can park the boat at my buddies floating house this weekend. I had to rework the pump and the float switch to fit everything in the hole. Also, I need to get some pics up with my black windshield and all cleaned up.

Did the logos get made up or stickers?

Count me in. Just picked this up last week....straight out of a time capsule. While it looks new, the part that bring a sh!it eating grin to my face is listening to the engine purrr. Sounds like a formula one race car.

Re: Tri-Hull Club...Yes? No? Maybe?

As soon as I figure out how to do digital photos, I'm in! ;)

I currently own a 15' Invader Capri, 1976, with a Merc 650 o.b. I have been VERY happy with it.

The women in my life, however, are not. They say the tri hull is way too rough on non-glassy water. T'aint smooth, but it doesn't bother me. But the ladies....well, let's just say that, when I upgrade, they want a (boring) v-hull.

So...I need a bigger boat. Probably 18'. If I get another tri hull, I'd prefer outboard, especially as the boat will be old, by definition. But are they all pretty rough in the chop? Or is it just mine? (The boats with the steering console mounted forward seem like they would create a brutal ride...is this so?...mine is mid-ships.)

Any ideas, here?

I have a 1975 Tempest tri-haul (Based on the year in the glass) 1972 Johnson 65hp. I will update with pics once I have them. I like this club.
