Good one! I used to dive a Jeep CJ-7 w/ the straight six fully loaded to Moab, UT a couple times a year for camping and 4-wheeling. That steep hill right before the Eisenhower Tunnel heading west on I-70 I would top out at 30ish mph (speed limit is 55mph)after that is down hill till you get to Vail pass and then down hill to the Utah border.<br /><br />-CR

I had a hard time even getting a fully loaded carbed motorcycle over Independence Pass i cant even think about towing anything <br /><br />tommays

Hello, 1st post here:<br /><br />My .02 is that it's all relative. I just bought a 3/4 ton DMax to tow my relatively small boat (19 ft and approx 5500 lbs fully loaded). If I lived at sea level on flat land my wife's Tahoe probably would have been fine, but going all over the Rockies I felt much safer going way overboard on the tow rating (I think it's like 12,500?). Besides, as soon as the kids are a little older we'll be moving up to a 25 ft. cruiser and then the truck will be necessary.

Spare a thought for us poor guys over the water paying in remote places as much as £1.15 per liter of fuel(approx $7.25/gallon. Tow mine in Scotland with a 2.0 liter turbo diesel with up to 27-30 mpg. We don't have so many long stretches of road where speed is a problem as we are limited to max 60mph with a trailer anyway.

I tow my 12' AVON inflatable "Rescue" with my Dodge Cummins turbo diesel. Is that OK at 18 MPG?<br /><br />Almost forgot. Also yank the Silverton to the marina and back a couple of times a year too.
