First boat - 1980 Bayliner Bowrider (not this one, but much like it). Had to do everything from the floor to the windshield.

A few in between, and now up to a 2001 Carver 374 Voyager (40' LOA, twin 7.4L Mercs, 7.3 KW Kohler genset)

13uchy, I really don't have any experience with anything smaller than the houseboat, but I can tell you there aren't really that many days where I have any complaints about the waves.
The narrow point between the inner and outer bays (between Coates Island and Marble Island) is usually the worst I encounter in Malletts Bay, and its primarily due to the necked down boat traffic.. not the wind.I
But as jjacobs007 said, "the bigger, the better". ;)

Hey Soggy, back in 1971 I was boating out of Mallets Bay in an 18' Tri hull Larson that belonged to a freind. We were working temp at IBM in Essex Junction and living in cabins on the bay. We crossed to NY several times. Always easy trips. Skied on the lake a lot that summer. Never saw Champy!!

I wasn't even an idea in my parents head in 71... Not for another 10 years anyway.

A year ago I was staying with friends who were renting a house on the road behind IBM.. the one leading to the dump/sand pits. So, pretty close to where you were working. Now, if you can remember where exactly you were staying, I bet I've stayed somewhere close to there too.

I've seen you post the Garwood before but I guess I never read your signature. Now with this post, I'm utterly green with envy. Beautiful boats.

My first and only boat shown below in 1972.

boat_1972_dad.jpg boat_1972_first_trip01.jpg boat_1972_first_trip02.jpg

That is my dad in the first pic (it was a Father's Day gift to himself) and me just before our maiden voyage in the front port side seat in the pic on the right.

And this is the boat now:

I have been amazed. This is an awesome boat. Needs a little cosmetic work and a few piddly things fixed which will come with time but I love this thing. It is one of the most stable boats I've been in--its like riding in a Cadillac.

That is pretty awesome!!!

Yea, it makes me proud knowing that I am putting the same TLC into the boat now which my dad obviously did when he owned it. In fact, it runs better now than it ever has and looks almost as good except a few minor tears in the upholstery. So much for the several dealers telling me that a 30 year old boat was most likely not worth re-powering when I was shopping around for someone who could re-power it for me. Were they ever wrong!

Taylor and Zoe at Pine Island 8-28-11 0311.jpg

My first boat was 1974 Glastron Trihull - 17 ft. with a 90 HP Chrysler outboard motor that gave me nothing but trouble. I don't have any pictures of it, but everyone remembers the Green and White version.

Anyway, now I have a 2002 Chaparral 200 SSe with a 4.3L VovoPenta Sterndrive that I absolutely love.

Re: your first boat! and where you are now in pict.

OK so do these count? First boat I was on was my Grandfathers small cabin boat up in NJ. First boats I drove were the Disney launches and the cruisers. Then a Rabolo center console on Disney Lake Patrol. First boat I actually owned was a Sunbird that I never actually put in the water. Then I bought a 89 Caravelle 17 footer that got us all over without issue. Glad I had that boat, but would never go back. Then we had a 88 Chris Craft Amerosport. I bought that one sight unseen and it certainly taught me a lesson. Never made it in the water. I couldnt see putting the money into it that it needed. It was supposed to be a good running boat with new paint and upholstery. The new paint looked like house paint put on with a roller and the upholstery looked to be made of rain jacket material. The engine had 5 dead cylinders and nothing worked in the cabin. Next boat was a 90 Chap, then the 01 Tahoe Q7 and now the Monterey in my signature.
