Wow, dont know how I missed this one, especially with the fact that I got a mention on your website bill!

that jupiter is in great shape... glad my paint was inspiring!

I am going to chime in on a few subjects... first... marine ply... dont waste your money. get a good exterior grade ply and coat it with epoxy resin and you will be good to go.

also, get yourself some gluvit and apply it to the inside of the hull. it will be money well spent.

on the windshield, do like EZ did and get a newer windshield... i think it looks waaaay better, plus having a walk through windshield is good.

lookin good so far!

Re: Yet Another 16' Starcraft :0)

Hi
Today was interesting. The gears inside my housing are shot. No trade in value with the mechanic doing the lower end. Bummer man. So the skinny is, $750 Canadian, for the lower end, and a new prop.

Now, how the blast do you inform your wife of that?

On a better note, I 've decided on the decking. I will be installing a product from Duncan.comhttp://www.ducan.com/products.php The embossed pattern of the vinyl offers excellent non-skid properties. That will be good for my kids, and me.
Check it out. $160 for 50sq feet, plus 40 for the adhesive.

Then on the inner sides, behind the walls, I'll be applying a stone effect spray paint something like this.

Any thoughts?

Bill, several people have used the vinyl deck covering with success. also the stone paint was used by a few people, and i cant recall anyone ranting and raving i also dont recall anyone complaining about it. just understand that you will go through alot of it.

on your motor issue, i dont know that I would drop $750 on a new lower unit for a 65hp merc... they are a dime a dozen and you can probably pick up one that is already running for less than that.

That dek master stuff looks cool. I will definitely be interested to see how it comes out. Like Andy said I'm pretty sure another SC owner used the stone effect spray paint on their interior and I believe it looked great.

You GOTTA be able to find a used lower unit for your Merc for way less than that. I wish someone could explain to me how you can buy a new transmission for a car for the what you'd pay for one of these stinkin' new lower units. They aren't that friggin' complicated! Sorry about your luck on that front.

ya know what bill, i just had a thought.

check with bob_vt, i know at one point he had a 65hp merc that he was looking to sell. see what he wants for it. he lives in vermont, so it would be a few hour ride for you but may be worth it...

for what its worth, i would be willing to help you in the transport of it...

Bill,

I used it and like it on the same area in my resto. It covers the adhesive well

Thanks for the words guys!
Bret, did you have to scrub off all the factory glue?

As for my Merc, The $750 Canadian includes the new rebuilt lower end, a new prop 13 3/4 -15 and all labor charges to install it and test it. I can't find and engine for less so I am going to do it cause me and a wrench or socket set are dangerous to engines.

The Dek-Master looks real nice. If you find a place that sells it in the USA, check it out. I really like the texture of it and the tone I am getting goes well with my canvas.

Speaking of canvas, how do you clean the mold and mildew off of it? Is there a product that does it? Also, is there anyplace where I can get aluminum tubing for my top. The snow last year bent one side and I'd like to have it replaced for Tinstock 2010. :p

who recommended the prop size? seems small to me, i would be worried about over revving.

Re: Yet Another 16' Starcraft :0)

Andy, The prop he is taking off is a 2 blade original one from the engine. The marine mechanic, Stu, recommended it. He said, because of the light weight of the boat, to go with the 15 so that I don't over rev it and without a tachometer, I really have nothing to go by. He also said if she is a dog pulling out of the water once I open her up, then I should go with a smaller number like a 13 or so. What do you think a 65HP Merc should have?
(Andy, did you find a roomie for Tinstock yet?)

EDIT: I removed images of replacement windscreen from 21' Charger. I will be keeping the original windshield shape as I have found a place that will make a replacement one out of Lexan. It is even in my city!

If anyone is looking for an original windshield replacement option, I found this in my city. http://www.pa-windshields.com/

I googled "Lexan windshield replacements" and was able to fine it.

So with that, I will be keeping the 'retro' look to my Jupiter V. I am now left with deciding on clear or a colored look for the lexan.

Ha! Not likely. Mine wouldn't "let" me have her. (duck, incoming boot!!)

Nice Rig Clark! I like the blue paint on her and she does look very hip for the day. What size is your motor?

Huzzah!!!! Stu, my mechanic just called me with the Merc running in the background. :D He is done with it, set up the idle for me and everything is purring like a kitten. He said is surprised him how well it's running. I get it back tomorrow, after I write him a check. :(

So that part is done with. YES!
Stay tuned...

I put a 1978 Mercury 800 (rated for 75). The motor was fine.

If I were to do one more super duper upgrade for these boats - I would get a intregral gas tank - one that can fit under the floor or in the bow. Motor +two6 gallon tanks + battery = sagging butt.

But also the pain of getting the gas tanks out, filling them up, plus those red tanks vent gas all the time with temperature changes.

I actually just sold it and am looking for a winter replacement.

Stoney Creek - Are you from Toronto?

I was looking on Craigs List and a guy had TWO renovated 800 Mercs - they were in Toronto...

No, I'm originally from Montreal, Quebec.

I live in Stoney Creek now with my wife and two kids. SWMBO got the news tonight about the $750 CAD. She said as long as I pay it off, she has no problem with it. :) Nice eh!

Stoney Creek is across Niagara Falls, and down the highway towards Toronto. We are on this, the south side of the lake, Just around the corner from Hamilton, ON.

Stoney Creek is famous for this Battle

But were neighbours now and drink each others beers when we're not looking. he he

Yeah I saw those two Mercs. $1500 bucks each. I tried to convince a co-worker of mine to buy the other one. No deal.

I still think my Merc is going to do just fine. After 40 years... and she is still purring,... I am blessed!

I went with this on mine:

my 12 gallon semi-portable tank held in place with brackets meant to secure a cooler.

Bill... i personally like the look of the style of windshield thats on it. how much is it going to cost to have it replaced with lexan?

do you ever get over to montreal anymore? I am just over the NY border, about an hour from downtown montreal. i work for a radio station that broadcasts from the states but we broadcast to montreal, have sales offices there, do street promotions and remotes as well. we cume about 500,000 listeners a week there.

EZ, cool tank placement. There is something to consider. How do you fill it? Does it stay there permanently or is it removable to fill.

Andy, I get to Montreal a couple times a year for some good smoked meat and bagels. Perhaps we can get a N/E get together going sometime.

The Lexan is going to be around $375 cad installed. Not too bad considering a replacement would have to be bent and shoved to make it work and then I'd have to fudge around filling in rivet holes from the old frame. Yeah, I am going to like having clean vision on it.

I pop the tank out to fill it. It's heavy but manageable. My boat had an existing copper gas line running under the floor from front to back which was cool.
