Re: Wireless Keyboard & Mouse

Speakin of wireless. I just got a new lap top and while setting it up I noticed it searching for available wireless networks to attach to at home last night.

Well it found 2 and VIOLA instant internet. It's a bit slower than cable but works in a pinch.

Don't know how long I can get away with it but am enjoying it while I can. :)

Spinner: It will work at a right angle with no problem.

As an example, I have my tower sitting on the floor to the right of my desk. I have the receiver plugged into the tower (obviously) and sitting on top of my tower. My KB & mouse are used on top of the desk about 3-4 ft away from it.

They use RF rather than infrared like a Television remote control. So, if you want to do a comparison, they act more like coordless phones, with a much smaller area of use.

LF: Be careful! You are stealing bandwidth from people and I have actually read of people getting jail-time for that. :D

Flat: Go for the wireless Logitech stuff -- you won't regret it. Oh, and as far as your wireless network is concerned the possiblities are endless. Hook your TiVo, PS2, and Handheld up to it. And don't forget the option of getting wireless webcams that you can setup throughout your house and watch from at work. Oh yeah, I suppose you could use your computer wirelessly too :D

Spinner - mine does from 14-16'away.
([edit] just measuerd to be precise)
I'm typing right now with it facing the wall opposite direction from the reciever.

^^^ eeboater's pic is exactly what I'm using right now. It retailed for $100 and I paid it no problem.. made too much sense for me to be fruggle(sp?) and hold off for a sale.

It paid for itself in convienience in the first month I had it.

Got the same thing at Circuit City. Using it as a wireless access point. Already had a router hard wired, but tired of dragging that wire around on my laptop. Works great. Connection is slower... sometimes drops to 36mbps as opposed to 100 hard wired, but I don't seem to notice it.

True, but I have never read or heard of someone being prosecuted. Kids are doing it all over. Mom and Dad won't shell out for a broadband connection, so they share little Jimmy's across the street.

Any half-wit can set up the encryption to protect your system from freeloaders.

"I'm not even half a half-wit then "

Would that make you a 1/4 wit??? :D

Everybody aim your antennas at Barlows house! ( and he wonders why he is only just a bit faster than dial-up, all his neighbors are mooching his bandwidth!)

Exactly how much jail time are we talking here? A week or so Ok but after that I'm going to run out of leftovers. Think I can get any "innocent victim" compensation? If LF throws herself on the mercy of the court do y'all think they might let her out for a couple of hours a day to cook my supper? And what about my fishing? How am I supposed to go fishing without proper supervision for everything from operating the boat to bait selection?

You guys have got me nervous now. ;)

Re: Wireless Keyboard & Mouse

Did I leave out the part of the story that said it was people connecting to a Loew's big-box store's wireless network, hacked in, and did some unscrupulous things?

If you live in an apartment, and have a wireless net. adapter, i bet you can find at least 4 wireless newtorks. Take your pic :D .

For a while, my friend and I were going to sell our high speed connection to the neighboring apartments. $45 a month for Road Runner, so charge your neighbor $25 a month. Do that 5 or 6 times, you got yourself a good way to make some $$...

Hmm... I think theres somethign in the "road runner rules" against that though... not sure, but might be :D

Sean

I never understood this...when its much more fun to just remove the batteries and watch. :D
Thanks for the idea! You just set Mrs.Link up for a good one. :D

MrLadyFish
Maybe LF will be in the same block as "My Gal Martha" that couldnt be all bad! Besides with a proper work release program on weekends LF could stock the fridge with enough food for the next week. With the insperation of Martha she could also clean the house, fuel up the boat, mow the lawn and set you up with a proper bait selection for the next week also. This might be a good thing! :D :D

eboater, i believe there is a firm outthere that will set u up as a point of sale ,free software/hardware and accouts so u can sell access to the internet. check with your local telco for a bussiness dsl. or go to one of the nationals and do some research. i cannot tell u more as it would be a conflict of interest.
