Re: Wild sounds

JB, you have a great point. This year's trip is supposed to be a gift from one of my many brother-in-laws. If I had my way, I would pay my own way, but how many chances do you get to go fishing out in the wilderness miles from nowhere?

My father-in-law worked hard his whole life. He had 10 kids and gave his mentally challenged brother a roof over his head 3 squares a day and anything else he needed. 2 years after this, he had a stroke while driving his car on the freeway. The person who was riding with him was able to get the car safely stopped. After that he had to go into a nursing home and needed 24 x 7 care. He was bad enough that none of us could take him in. Every time we visited he begged us to take him home. He died a short while later. He did not get a chance to relax and be retired. I would encourage everyone here to take JB's advice and enjoy life. Don't put off having fun because you may not get a chance.

JB, I sure am glad you got your second, and third chances. Enjoy your trip this summer. I hope the muskies are biting like crazy..

Re: Wild sounds

imagine me sittin at jb's dock, enjoying a sex on the beach, gazing peacefully into the sunset with the ol' ancient mariner...then i hop into the mirage and fire up the 496! beatiful cracks of combustion waft from my stainless open exhaust pipes. the smell of burnt fossil fuel filling the once still air. jb jumps in next to me and we head off into the dusk to enjoy another 75 mile an hour pass. the neighbours all run to their porches waving and yelling at us... over the sweet sound of the motor i think i can hear them say "go faster!".

peace on earth my friends.

Yea Scoop, eagles and Loons are not friends, guess I should have made that point a little clearer. I was also trying to show how dumb the movie was, as the eagle and the loons in the movie were in a desert scene.

If you are ever looking for a reasonably priced place to go in Canada, I could recommend a few.
One real nice, one real far back in there. Cabins aren't too bad. It can get pricey if you want them to cook your meals. Campground there too, even has water and electric. You can camp for a week for $85 a person. Cabins range from $200 to $400 depending on the services you want.

The resort is about 44 miles in on a logging road, North of Upsala Ontario. They have a float plane for remote fly-ins.

They will be in Madison at the sport show on Jan 31 to Feb 2nd.

I would recommend the cheaper cabin deals. We usually fish a different lake every day. But the base lake is great. Sorry, haven't found any musky there, lots of northern, wally and smally.

http://www.wawangresort.com/

If you don't want to venture that far in, there are several resorts on the chain of lakes near Upsala. About 150 miles? NW of Thunder Bay.

(when making reservations, please use code "roscoe" so I get my comission) he he

Re: Wild sounds

i werk for the City....In the City all day, I'm around some extremely noisey equipment.
Those weekends where I'm lucky enough to get out on the water, it's the silence at anchor, except for the lapping of water against the hull, the occasional splash of a jumping mullet, and the huge-ness of the scene around me. It puts God on the "front burner" of my brain amd in my heart.
Company is allways nice, but not required.
The sounds of silence can only be appreciated fully,if you have experienced the turmoil and racket of the daily commute. Not that can be apreciated by everyone, but some would tend to be somewhat de-sensatized....These are the lucky ones in my opinion.
Silence has a "sound" all it's own.
Then there are those crisp nights by the campfire, and the sounds of the beercan "bushhhhh", and the call of the whipperwil. ...All night long, "bushhhhhh,,,,,Whipper---will!...Whipper will!!!!! Whipperwill!!! bushhhhhhh.....SHUT UP BIRD!!!! whipperwhil! <burp> pssssssss"

Re: Wild sounds

The wailing of a coyote. The howl of a wolf. The honk of geese flying south. The wind in the pine trees.

The sound of horses sleeping peacefully at night.
The feel of your favorite dog next to you. The sight of a full moon overhead.

Re: Wild sounds

I had a warm fuzzy feeling from a sound
yesterday. My youngest son entered
kindergarten this year, last night we
went to his christmas concert at the school
the children sang christmas carols, the first song
was jingle bells. after the song was over,
and the piano player stopped playing. Some of
the children kept on singing anyway ,out of key
and out of time. what a great feeling it brought to hear and see them so full of joy!

Boating experiences?
I had a 19' sailboat back in the mid 80's. I kept it on Cook's Bay of Lake Simcoe, North of Toronto. It was early in November, and a friend and I had gone up to take it out for the Winter. Before we did though, we went out for a sail. Normally, Lake Simcoe has a lot of traffic on it, but virtually everybody pulls their boat out by the end of October, so we were the only boat out there. Only the sound of the wind and the hull slipping through the water. One of the nicest sails I ever had.

Re: Wild sounds

i was sitting in my back yard trimming my wife's mullet when i was disturbed by the thundering sound of a moose stampeding. i calmly motioned for the moose to join us for a nice cold beer. the moose pulled up a stump and downed a half sack in no time. it was my pleasure to fire up the old barbi and cook up a few "moose" burgers and we dined on fine meat all evening. it was well past dusk before the moose was on his way. before plowing through my neighbours fence the moose turned and gave me a wink, and with that he slipped into the darkness.....

Re: Wild sounds

Sounds like JB hit it on the head and while we still have to work keep in mind that sometimes it is more important to do what you enjoy doing rather than make a lot of money. Personally I went through 2 career changes and settled on a 3rd before I was finally happy with my work. Of course I made more money with my first job but I am happy and actually get up and enjoy going to work now. For those that can't do what I did you have to find out what is important to you and then make the time to do it and not met work interfere. I let my second career really get in the way of my family life and I either had to give it up or give up what I loved and I made the right choice. But my first career gave me time to do what I wanted and I think it is all that kept me sane during the time I had to work.
