so you would rather work on a boat than enjoy a boat?

Well, I enjoy working on a boat. And don't confuse a boat being enjoyable and a boat being perfect. A mechanically sound boat is an enjoyable boat. In the case of the boat that it appears that he is buying. 1. He works as a mechanic with other mechanics anxious to help him work on the boat. How long do you think it is going to take him to change out a U-joint bellow and possible upper portion of an outdrive? Any other issues with the 4.3 will be an even easier fix. On a Sunday, I discovered that I had a bad U-joint bellow and also needed a new upper for my outdrive. I worked 40 hours that week, and my boat was in the water by the following Friday with a new bellow and entirely different outdrive that I'd found on CL. Total repair = $200 for a new outdrive + $40 for a bellow. I already had bellows adhesive. And, I'll be honest... replacing that U-joint bellow suuuuuuucked!

Not every boat repair is a winter long rebuild. And, if you can do it yourself like the owner of this thread can, then a boat repair doesn't mean your boat sits in the shop parking lot for 3 weeks because it is the busy season.

Plus, the owner of this thread already has a boat that works. He can use that while he gets his new-to-him boat ready.

Can't wait to see more of the Wellcraft. I think it was a great choice.

will do, i pick it up sat morning at 9 am, then its just under a 2 hour drive home

the dual axle trailer the boat is sitting on in the picture im not taking, it has no title, the lights dont work, and it needs all 4 tires, it was free but i opted out of that headache, the place the boat is being stored has a single axle trailer with title and new lights that he wanted $600 for, so i am getting that trailer with the boat, ended up at $3400 for it all. not that it matters, but the boat also has 6 life jackets, an anchor, all ropes/etc

I would try to find a tandem trailer for it. The boat itself without the trailer is pushing 3500# dry(NADA weight). A single axle trailer is probably rated at that exact weight and you haven't even added the weight of the trailer, gear and fuel yet.

Also, is it just me that is have the red flags going off in my head concerning the trailer situation although you are getting it for a pretty good price so maybe its not a deal breaker.

I hope all goes well with the boat. You were looking in a difficult price range, so you have probably done about as good as could be done. Hopefully, the work needed will go smoothly. You will get lots of help from the folks here on iBoats (sometimes too much help :) ).

Enjoy.

Im with you Bruce. needs a tandem trailer, and there are sirens with the red flags.

whats wrong with the prop?

bend at the tip of one of the blades

as for the trailer, im aware that im probably pushing it on this single axle, im hoping it will handle it for a year or 2. if not then i will look into a dual axle. i could take the dual axle its currently on, but the no title thing kills it, and honestly its to big of a trailer, makes the boat seem twice the size it really is. we went through the no title with my current boat and she doesnt wanna do it again(actually still going through it)

Why not get a trailer that can handle the load properly? This would be the first thing I would do.

What is the single rated for? I would not automatically disqualify it based on the number of axles - you can get a single for my wake boat and many people have them. Having switched from a single to a tandem, I would swap back to a properly rated single in a minute just for sheer maneuverability and garage use.

He might get lucky. What's the chance this seller happened to have a single axle trailer that had a 5200# axle laying around?

Many times the trailer is ignored, but in my opinion it is a very big part of an enjoyable trailer-boating experience.

Edit - forget it, wrong boat. I thought he had settled on the Maxum

Instead of buying a new prop, just have yours redone. about 1/3 the cost.

there is no good thing about overloading a trailer.

Or fix it and buy a spare. Prop repair for a standard aluminum is $40 carry in at my local plave, smart shopper can buy a new one online for $100. Never hurts to have an extra.

I wish mine were only $300 each. Try $600 each!
