Re: Why why why...

I like the open header sound some times, but I woudlnt own that option only. It would have to be a captains call style. There is a time and a place for everything and sometimes there is a time to be loud. Your not going to please everybody, its your boat do what makes you happy within the confines of the law. There will always be somebody who complains about what others are doing no matter what.

Just an FYI for the fogies...if you want peace and quite Iowa lakes is not the place to find it. "Hey honey, let's go to the lake for some peace and quite. We are only going to find people whipping someone around on a tube, throttles being goosed to up a skier, jets skis ripping around all over heck, kids screaming, wake boats throwing wakes everywhere, music blasting..." If you want peace and quite that should probably not be ones first choice. Btw...I don't own a t shirt over $15 let alone anything Ed Hardy has his name on.

Re: Why why why...

When i fist saw this thread i knew it was going to be a good one....................:D

When i was instaling the motor in the Checkmate i was thinking open header Zoomies up and out......Thats what my 24 yr old son wanted me to do! Come on Dad that would be awsome....Needless to say it did not happen.

I chose to go with the stock log manifolds/Y- pipe and out the prop........But i did go with the exhaust tube instead of the bellow....

Wow.... Now im a poser with a stock small block with a little Rumble and a sweat looking Yellow boat...........

Now there is a guy that brings out his Jet boat every now and then with a BB-Ford with Zommies out the back...he will buzz around the lake for an hour or so........We will be sitting at the beach and you will see some people watching and pointing...........but never heard anyone say...that guy's an idot and his boat is too loud! What i do hear....is... man i would love to take a ride in that boat......

To each his/her own........Happy Boating!

I think it really depends on the body of water. On my river/Chain it is very common and normal to see very loud and fast boats you can hear from miles away, but up north where I go on vacation it would be very annoying to have as many loud and fast boats. I personally think your boat should go as fast as it sounds if you are going to put on a open exhaust. I also think every boat with open exhaust should have CC to keep it quiet when needed.. Such as early morning or anytime after dark even on waters where it is quite normal to be loud.

I rig my boats to be as quiet as possible, when I repowered quiet was a deciding factor. If you want loud, and you say it’s because you like the sound, then don’t point the exhaust out the transom and at me, route it so “you” can hear it.

I live on a river and listen to boats all day in season, some loud, some not, my thanks goes out to all those who have quiet exhaust .
On the other side of the river is a rather winding road that motorcyclists love, all summer long from morning till night bikes are cruising (racing at times) up and down it. There is a certain segment of this group that thinks I will enjoy their open exhaust as much as they do, so they make sure I (everyone) can hear it. Again, if they like the sound, route it so they hear it, not the rest of us. Trying to enjoy a quiet day of sipping a drink or two on the deck is made less enjoyable by being forced to listen to other peoples ego’s race past.

Now to those that think I’m an old grump that doesn’t have fun. My first dream was to race boats, but with no drivers license (too young) to get the boat to the water I raced bikes (could ride right from my house), did that for over thirty years. Even then I knew loud didn’t mean cool, not even on my own stuff in my ears, my bikes were set up to be quiet, or as quiet as possible. Even back then loud sort of meant “unknowing newbie”, not “cool and to be admired”.
