Gee....and I been thinking I need to see the posiden adventure at the show. I like to see adventures at the theater but the people are a drag....now I'm gonna wait and enjoy my new surround sound sys and the movie, AND "in my underware". :p

I agree Sean. <br /><br />We were at our Grandaughter's dance recital Sunday and the same thing happened. Now mind you her dance school has been aroun 41 years and there were well over 100 girls participating from the age of 2 to 16. It's a 3 hour show.<br /><br />They have their program at the 1894 Opera House where musicals and plays are the usual venue. It's an extremely old and beautiful theatre where people normally behave themselves.<br /><br />Well, to Mr. LF's right was a 350 pound woman who decided to sing and/or hum to every number not to mention taken full use of the armrest between them. To my left was a teenage girl and boy who decided to giggle and laugh and talk very loud until Mr. LF finally turned to them and said "could you please shut up." I was as peeved as he was but other than giving them a few dirty looks didn't say anything. My method didn't work but his worked famously.<br /><br />We did end up moving to another section after intermission.<br /><br />What ever happened to common courtesy?

I am so glad I read this thread! I thought maaybe I am the only one that doesn't go to a theater anymore because of kids running around, people kicking your seat, talking, chomping on popcorn, and all of those other things! I too wait until it comes out on DVD and then buy it or rent it. As far as drive ins go, we still have several in the area, as a matter of fact there is a twin screen about 1/4 mile from my house that I could watch with a well placed tree stand. That reminds me of years ago when I lived in Anchorage and in addition to the little tinny speakers you put in your window they also had heaters of the same shape to heat your car's interior. :D

Good, I'm glad everyone else hates it as much as I do... So, here's the question of the hour.<br /><br />Would you pay MORE to sit in a theater which had a rule that you HAD to be quiet?<br /><br />Yeah yeah, I get the whole buy the DVD and watch it at home... But its the experience you are paying for --- to watch something on a gigantic screen.<br /><br />We could put decibel meters on the backs of the seats to sense sound levels being eminated. Exceed the set decibel amount and a small LED lights up on the seat in front of you. There are three lights, for three chances to be quiet.<br /><br />Once you pass your third light, you are escorted out of the show.<br /><br />I'd pay for it.<br /><br />Sean

LF said, "What ever happened to common courtesy?"<br /><br />She beat me to it, except I know what happened to common courtesy. It is dead, along with civil manners.<br /><br />When I was a young whippersnapper I was ejected from a movie theatre for talking during a film. Charlie Piquet, who owned/ran the Carolina Theatres in Pinehurst and Southern Pines, NC, did that regularly, and delivered a stern lecture on manners at the same time.<br /><br />Where are the Charlie Piquets of today? Maybe Mr. LF is one. We need more. :(

If I go to the movies with the lady, its generally during the day. Its almost half price plus the theatre is almost completely empty.<br /><br />We used to have a drive in around here, but it was torn down and an industrial park now sits there. Last movie I saw there was "The Fugative"<br /><br />I think People are annoying almost everywhere.....the movie theatre is just a prime example of it. If they weren't we wouldnt have all the "holding up the boat launch" stories etc. Sad to say, but when I go to a movie or to a boat launch, I expect people to be inconsiderate, so when it happens I am not as mad about it.

DVD player + big screen + surround sound, you won’t want to go to the movie theater anymore, guaranteed! The quality of a movie shown in my (Calif) living room is as good or better than any theater, the seats are more comfy, I can drink beer without having to sneak, and there aren’t any screaming kids or rude in my livening room. I can pause the movie to go pee, stop it to take a phone call, or watch Sharon Stone uncross her legs in slow motion, rewind, watch Sharon Stone uncross her legs in slow motion, rewind, watch Sharon Stone uncross her legs in slow motion, rewind...<br /><br />The technology is here, it is affordable. So, 'no' I would not pay to see a movie in a theater, with or without goofy electric chairs. The whole experience of a movie in the home is better!

Self Absorbed<br />does things primarily for the benefit of themself, puts their feelings first, can't do anything when they don't feel good, swayed by their emotions, more concerned with themself than others, prefers personal glory over team victories, pleasure seeker, uses their looks to get what they want, gets angry when they don't get what they want, dramatizes their suffering, wealth seeking, superficial, manipulative, narcissistic

Re: Why are people so annoying?

Almost forgot ...read something that the reason movie going is crappy now is because of VCRs. The VCR allowed people to watch movies in their home where kids were being raised. Those kids grew up in an environment where they talked, ate, wrestled, etc during a movie in the home. They took the behavior they were raised with to the movie theater with them. And once in the theater that behavior became contagious. Don’t know if it’s true, but that’s what I read.

Re: Why are people so annoying?

Most of the stupid stuff nowdays comes back to what JB & LF said about common courtesy and good manners. I think it has more to do with lack of parental oversight and "time outs" instead of real values being instilled in the past couple of generations. There are 1/2 raised people trying to raise kids and we are looking at the breakdown of society by self indulgence and lack of caring about anyone other than themselves. Thank you Dr Spock!

Don't go to movies... IF one comes along worth watching, I'll view it on Pay Per View or wait for it to hit STARZ. <br /><br />So if my wife or the dogs become annoying while watching, I'll just throw something or turn up the volume. :D

Well, if you think about it theater movies are crap anyways. The quality sucks... there's flickers of string, dots, marks, etc in the picture as you watch (if you pay attention to them).<br /><br />I have a 52" HD widescreen, Bose Surround and HD DVD player - so believe me, I know what you mean when you say it is more enjoyable to watch movies at home.

It must have been tough for a youngster to stay quiet with only the piano accompaniment to go with the moving picture. :D ;)

Some where along the line the Board of Education missed the Seat of Knowledge, for at least two generations.
