Thats lucky then! And will look sharp being straight AL under that. I never had that option unfortunately cause my PO covered every square inch of the hull bottom with coat-it. If its sitting on the trailer, it will be fine curing over time. Winching it on the trailer, travelling to the lake, or putting her in the drink could affect bottom paint below the water line thats uncured. Above it and not on the trailer? No worries.

I mocked this up with one of my pedestal seats on the old plastic box from the 'headknockers'. I'm thinking of perhaps building a slightly taller box from plywood, and putting a hinge on the underside front of the seat to the box. That way it could be tipped forward to access storage box. Also, the seat back folds down for use with mooring cover. I was thinking of a continuous bench across the back, but access to battery and fuel tanks will be easier this way. Thoughts?

Here's the primed sides currently. I'm severe novice with this painting business. I've primed over onto the masking tape a bit. That's going to still peel back nicely even with 2 coats of primer and similar of colour overtop?
I was torn between painting with gunnel trim on vs off. I went with trim on, as I figured I'd just scratch the paint up when putting it on. For the top-of-gunnel work, I'll need to tape off the outer trim, but will remove the inner. The inner sets in place easily, and is far less likely to scratch things up.

The JB-weld filled pits look like zits on a teenager. As I'm planning to leave bottom section bare, just Sharkhide'd, I guess I'll live with that. It'll be around the waterline anyways.WP_20220324_14_14_56_Pro.jpg
So here's my brainwave for fuel tanks storage. The previous owner had them loose in the back, but he almost never went above idle, so I'm sure that worked for him. This grey box will have a bungee that holds the bottom tank in place, and a strap overtop to hold the 3 gallon "I thought you filled the tank!" reserve.

The old headknockers. No cracks in the vinyl, and very nice cushioned seats compared to the stiff new seats I bought. However they are hideous, and NOT admiral-approved. Are they of any value? I put them up on the local FB Marketplace. Lots of useless "are they still available" responses. One guys says he's coming to look tonight.

Looking great! I like the stacked fuel tank idea. I wonder if the vinyl on those seats could be colour restored with some sort of rubbing compound. (General question, I know you are done with them)

The vinyl is sun-damaged at the tops of the seat backs, such that the fabric underneath is showing through. I am amazed the vinyl is in such good shape overall though. It feels quite thin, is soft and pliable, crack-free, and as old as me! If only I had the same attributes.

They were pretty moldy when we got the boat. With a bunch of effort with a variety of cleaning products we were able to get most of the mold stains off, but the bad fading, and sun-damage killed any idea of re-use. I have seen that vinyl paint in aerosol cans at Crappy Tire, but I can't imagine that would be a satisfactory result.

I think you can re-dye vinyl?

I like the windshield. May be better than the steeper Starcraft SS windscreen. I think the steepness of the SS creates more turbulence and buffering.
On my Mariner, and my bikes, the windscreen is adjustable. Best height seems to be the top even with your hairline, but I can see over it if I sit up real straight. And with it leaned back, there is smooth air stream that flows completely above my head. If I make it more vertical, the wind is all over, like driving behind a semi truck.

First coat is of Rustoleum is on. I thinned using @Woodonglass 's updated recommendations that @ShoestringMariner pointed me to. It went on pretty thin, wetted out decent, with almost all bubbles popping on their own. Very little tipping was needed, but I think that's due to the thinner nature of the mix. I'm going to wait 24 hours, quick scrub with Scotchbrite, wipe down, and apply coat #2. From reading some automotive diy paint forums, guys using the same mix on cars often roll on 6-8 coats, wet-sanding between every other coat. Final coat gets wet-sanded and polished to eliminate the orangepeel. I'm not expecting show-quality finish here, so we'll see. Maybe 3-4 coats is enough?
Here's an update pic. Excuse the mess. The cleaning staff has been slacking recently.

Admiral is suggesting to continue that upper stripe around the transom as well. Any thoughts on the two-tone transom? Now's the time to do it, I suppose.

Your off to a great start. That blue pops! Me, I like a white transom but I’m airing on that because I’m going to have so much blue inside I want to balance it out.

What’s your other colour going to be again?

I'm planning to leave bare aluminum below the blue. At this point I was planning to leave bare aluminum transom as well, with Sharkhide protectant. As it'll be sitting in the lake for 6-7 months a year, I don't want to risk my DIY paint job reacting to the continuous water exposure. Interior is grey Nautolex, white vinyl side panels, dash, bow seats/cushions.

Looks nice!! A two tone transom sitting on the water may look normal. On the trailer, a little weird maybe. My transom matches my bottom hull, so the color did not continue around the sides to the transom. The polished bottom looks so sharp! Wish I had that option.

I think I'm with you on that. It would look odd. I'm going to proceed with shining it up some, hitting it with Sharkhide, and calling it a day. The Yamaha 60 needs to get off the engine stand and back on the transom soon!

If you take the blue around the back it should look sharp with the bare aluminum at the bottom.
2-3” of the transom aluminum will probably sit under the water.

Hmm, now I see this Lund on FB just now, so the 2-tone transom has been done before. Hmmm need to think about this. Too much blue might be overwhelming.

Here’s what it looks like I’m solid blue. I’m pretty sure I got this photo from another build on this forum. Not sure who the builder was but I really like the boarding ladder/platform. I’m going to do something similar if I ever get me lazy butt off the couch.

My splashwell is already flat in that area, so that could work for me too. I think some add-ons will need to wait for 2023 though. Maybe we'll see how many times the portable ladder that just hangs over the side gets used. Off to roll a slightly thicker coat #2 shortly, if I can find my way to the shop in the fresh snow!
