Re: where are you from?

You people make me seem kind of like a homebody!!
I was born in Mt Gilead, OH and raised 5 miles outside Galion, OH.
I left home at 17 yrs old and joined the Air Force. Basic Training in San Antonio, Technical Training in Rantoul (sp?), Illinois. Then they sent me to San Bernardino, CA.
There I did a LOT of partying, and eventually met my wife.
We got sent to Ramstein, Germany for 4.5 yrs. Then on to here. Elmendorf AFB, AK - located in Anchorage, AK. I have been here for 8 yrs. I am due to leave here in June of '05 :( Probably do a Remote Tour to Korea and leave the wife and boys here for a year and try to come back for retirement.

AK Chappy

Re: where are you from?

Mr. LadyFish and I were both born in small towns in Upstate New York. We moved to the Houston area in over 25 years ago and 12 years ago moved to Galveston Island, more specifically Jamaica Beach.

As you can see the distance from the Gulf of Mexico to Galveston Bay is not but about 3/4 of a mile so we are in a potentially dangerous area when a hurricane or tropical storm strikes.

Our small community of 1,500 only 500 full time residents is surrounded by wetlands and natural wildlife preserves. Niney percent of the time we have no worries about weather and enjoy the year round fishing and boating. It's a very close knit community. Storms have a way of bringing people closer together. We all watch out for eachother which makes it an even nicer place to live. :)

Wisconsin. (GO Packers! GO Badgers!) Grew up during the antiwar protests in Madison. Moved to less that 1/2 hour away from Ed Gein's stomping grounds (he lived near Plainfield). Then to Harry Houdini's hometown of Appleton. Back near Madtown. Now I'm 1/2 hour southwest of the Mercury factory and about 2 hours northwest of the Johnnyrude plant. Beaver Dam Lake has several small islands that had stills and *****houses on some back around 1900. 16th largest in Wisconsin with the deepest hole reaching a whopping 8'. It's also less than 1/2 hour away from where Ed Gein lived and died in prison. For those of you that don't recognize the name...his crimes inspired Psycho and Texas Chainsaw Massacres.

Centreville, Virginia here. 30 Minutes from Washington DC, 45 minutes to some fine trout fishing in the Mountains. 10 minutes to some great bass fishing. 3.5 hours to Ocean City, MD.

I love it here and I wouldn't trade it for anything. If I couldn't live here, Colorado or Hawaii would be my next choice.

I'm from Enfield Ct. born and raised here. Were about 15 miles dead north of Hartford. Great trout and bass fishing in the spring time stripers follow the spawning herring and alwifes up the Connecticut River 15-40 lbs fish are everywhere for about 6 weeks. We are 60 miles from the shore I spend a lot of time fishing for fluke and blues.

Re: where are you from?

Farmlands of middle California for me- which is nothing at all like the big cities of California- some bad winter fog, hotter (but dry) in summers, MUCH less traffic, a bit slower pace of life (sanity almost), and easy access to both the Pacific and the Sierra Nevadas (and many lakes). Did live out east of San Diego for a few years during college time. Bro Chris, we "grow" roadside oranges like your tomato out here. Right Bassy? We grow LOTS of tomatos around Merced where I now live, but they are a little smaller, I must confess.
Bassy, I too was confused about which Squaw Valley- but I know your area fairly well. I worked a summer at Sequoia Lake, had friends in Dunlap, etc. Nice country.

Right Bearcat! Lots of tom's.
Hey, what lakes do you go to? Millerton? I used to go to Hensley quite a few years ago. Just wondering how the water levels are for you. Ours are way, way down.
EDIT: Sorry, I was thinking of Madera. Always do that. So, what lakes do you frequent up there?

Re: where are you from?

Well, I wasn't even part of this forum when this thread posted, but I'm sure glad to be apart of it now. Seems like a bunch of wonderful folks folks on here. Oh... did I mention smart folks too!

mellow, you mentioned Buffalo? I love that town. I go there every year for a snow symposium across from the Buffalo Airport.

Oh yeah, Kansas City Missouri. I did say Missouri too, not Kansas. LOL Love that BBQ!
