i agree with the above post.....

as far as a tri hull.......sbl.......in chop.....those things will beat the stuffings out of you and your back.

they are great boats on a calm lake....love em....very stable fishing platform......but in bigger water with chop......they will rattle your teeth loose

I disagree completely with this opinion and think an old trihull would be a great boat for our hero SBL.

i wasn't talking about your old boat. And don't think going from a 14' trihull to a 14' V is going to solve the chop problem. Size and weight is more important. So what I'm saying, is as you are scrounging for a hull, don't write off the old favorites.

Put your 50 on it if you must. Get out of the yard and on the water!

That 50 is fried, ka-put, shot, toast, dead and SBL doesn't want to say or admit it, if it wasn't dead this thread would be about finding another hull to put it on.. but that hasn't been mentioned.

He ignored everyones advice on his boat resto thread, he ignored advice on getting his motor fixed, and he'll ignore any advice given to him on this thread.

He'll probably buy another POS boat and it'll end up being another pile of junk in the yard... but then he'll be "A man of 3 boats"!!! I guess no one has the heart to tell him that a pile of unseaworthy junk in the yard doesn't qualify as a boat.

Time to change your signature SBL.

i haven't asked him yet i'm iffy kinda a bit scared i mean it it his boat and he did put the money into it and a lot of money into it. And jing what are you talking about with the motor it works it's not dead. it's fixed. done the right way and fixed.
But heres the thing i'm goign to work on the boat today finishing striping the boat but my real question is can i make this a center console i don't mind the work i don't mind doing it right. but can it be done? ill check this when i get home im going now to strip the rest of the boat. But i might even have a friend that could help convert it. o what about a more open side console only set up with a bow seating? thanks every one.

Good grief SBL...you asked this a day or so ago and everyone already answered you (see below). NO...we don't think you can convert Ol' Red into a center console. Follow the advice and get a boat made for this purpose.

in my opinion i think you would need the cap as to it provides structural support now it is possible but would take more work (unless you like your boat looking like poo) to cut off the consoles n' just make the cap go around the edge where needed then add some fiberglass to the area cut down the side to make it look smooth. then make your center console set up that you will have to run all controls n' stuff under your deck. N what we suggest is just that a suggestion if you want a center console make it a center console BUT beware of the challenges and time n money it will take, when in that time you could instead mow a TON of lawns n stuff make 2k to buy a real center console n slowly work on lil red so you still have a project to work on in your free time. I haven't seen what lil red looks like but if you got some pics of the motor i could prob tell you if its saveable

No you can't have a center console. The boat is structurally sound the way it is. Don't change the cap design unless you're a naval architect and can properly design a new cap. Even if you could design it, you don't have the molds to build it.

structurally speaking.......this is not a good idea at all......the cap provides rigidity for the hull. the bow, as well as the transom.

you could do major modifications and make it work......but the cost in glass, resin, and other materials would be over 2 thousand dollars.

This came instantly to my mind. oops!' thread. Specially about the 10th pic down where he has his chain saw out. Then you'd have more room. Good thing you've got a sailboat too. You'll still be able to go boating while your working on the speed boat.:)

The old man knows best... Time to put that old boat out to pasture (and not the one in your father's backyard).

I thought you were parting it out to buy another boat?

Do you really want to hear the answer, or are you just looking for validation?

Here's my opinion.....its a pig with lipstick. Obvious recent rework to hide something. It's not worth the effort. Fix what you have and be satisfied with it.
I don't see any signs of obviously new materials except maybe the trailer paint.

Might be a bit underpowered with a 50. And it clearly needs at least one new tire on the trailer. Otherwise, might be worth looking into.
