Re: What were your parents thinking?

My surname is also a christian name. My christian name is also a surname (usually with a S on the end, and many people assume that).

My 3 brothers suffer the same fate.

We have all discussed it and came to the conclusion it was amusing watching peoples confusion.

Mother refused to allow anyone to abreviate or slang our names.

Back in the 70's there was a long reigning olympic long distant runner whose name was made up of half my christian and half my surname, and people would accidentally call me that.

But hang on, what do your indigenious peoples do for names? Down here, and in New Zealand, some have hilarious names. I realise you shouldn't laugh, but boy, some of them are down right amazing.

Cheers
Phillip

I knew a woman named Sno White. Richard Head was always good for some laughs too. I like the creative made up names for the various assistants et al. at the end of Car Talk.

In the area where I grew up, the Beaver Creek runs through it. The last name Beaver also belongs to several families. My wife didn't believe me that I had a classmate named Harry and his sister Lacey, until I showed her my yearbook. At least their little sister Miranda didn't have such a difficult time!

My last name is Shepherd, and it is a neverending curse that nobody ever spells it right. Shepard, Sheperd, Shephard, many other ways. It was wrong on my first driver's license (that I kept for almost 3 years before moving to Indiana).

Good grief people... it's just like Jesus spells it!

I worked with a guy named BB Polikus. His little brother's name was "Freakus Polikus" and his sister's name was "Groovy Nipples Polikus". I always wondered what "BB" stood for. All really cool/nice folks. Parents were just hippies.

I'm with the whole "think about your kids name" thought, but even I made a bit of a mistake. My son's name is "William Timothy Hudson". First and middle are family names, but I wasn't thinking about his initials being "WTH", which in texting stands for "what the hell?" Oh well, could be worse I guess and sometimes you can't cover every angle.

A good buddy of mine in High School had that name too. Except "Mike" was his middle name, his first name was "Phillip." (Say that whole name in order fast  ) His mom remarried and they changed their last name, but then his initials became "PMS." Kid couldn't catch a break.

Wanted to name my son "Frank Alexander" but those initials would not go well with a last name starting with "G."
(Of course my wife's initials became "NAG" )

A guy I use to work with, his first name was Harry, his last name was what is left when you smoke a cig. His dad was a Church of God minister.

Some of these posts are so crazy funny almost hard to believe, a person would have a tiny baby and agree on some of these names here. Knowing what they sounded like, all these poor kids growing up. :D
