Re: What were your parents thinking?

He was like 14 at the time, his mom's new husband legally adopted him.

I'd be pissed if my wife left me, remarried, and made my kid change his last name. She might end up in a ditch somewhere.

When I was a kid, one guy I knew had the last name of "Mitchell". So guess what they gave him for a first name...yep..."Mitchell". So there he was: "Mitchell Mitchell". Nice kid, but I hope he isn't on this forum....!

Some people should be slapped silly for what they put on their kids. (Remember a "Boy Named Sue"?)

Re: What were your parents thinking?

My mother's boss back in the 80's was .......Rocco Rocco. No joke.

The whole "crappy name" thing is the bane of my existence. I absolutely hate idiotic names.

I have a niece named Leola(horrible horrible name). I went ballistic when I heard that my sister was going to name her that! The rest of my family hated it, too....but were too wimpy to say anything to my sister about it. I chewed her ear off about it.
To this day, I have only spoken my nieces name a handful of times.

Studies have shown that odd names put the kids at a distinct disadvantage in the world when it comes to getting a job etc.

Nothing personal to those who do it, but I hate the whole "jr" thing also. I never understood why people would want their son to have the exact same name as them. Isn't having the same last name enough?

I have 2 friends with son's with the same name. It's tiring to always have to ask for "big Mike" or "little Mike" when calling their house etc. They admit it's a pain-in-the arse, too.

I'll chime in a bit with a rant about nicknames, and how they can follow you through life.

Grandson's name is Cedrick Deshawn, everybody but me calls him "Ceddy", where I use "CJ". I've told them all about it, but they persist. I can only imagine what might happen in school with a nickname like that.

I have 1/2 brother out in the Chicago area whose name is name Michael Hunt. He goes by Mike :D

I knew that this would be here somewhere!

This name is was used to pass the time at supermarkets, airports, car auctions, in fact anywhere where there was a public crowd and we were with the boys.

We'd ask the information point to put a call out for "Mike Hunt" ;)

My Mother's side of the family was from Wales and I can remember from family reunions such names as Thomas Thomas, Jenken Jenkens, Morgan Morgan, and a whole lot of William Williams.

Looked at the seniority list at work and saw Rusty Ford. Chuckled and commented to a friend that his parents must of had a sense of humor.

Apparently not. There is no cheaper, easier monument than naming his son after himself. Bloated ego

Re: What were your parents thinking?

I'm a "Junior". I always thought my father named me after himself. Turns out years after he died and I talked to my mother that she always liked my first and middle name and had always planned on naming her son that name if she ever had one.. I was going to be named "Nose Picker " and whatever her married name would be. Turns out she married a "Nose Picker" and so I ended up being a Junior.
