And what do they call the one mounted to the starter? It has to do with function as much as nomenclature.

Actually part number 89-96054 is specified as a Standard Starter Slave Solenoid and the one on the actual starter is called a Solenoid Switch.

This terminology is also found in the Mercruiser service manual.

well it looks like were all wrong on this one :facepalm: oh well at least i have the correct part number and i will order one from amazon or iboats this week.
