Those Frugal Flushers are a Gold Mine for the Rotto Rooting industry. When retrofitted in older houses where the pipes were sized for 4 -5 gallon flush, blockages are very common.

Exactly jimmbo. 1/4" per foot drop isn't enough for 4" lines with low flush toilets, insufficient hydrostatic pressure. Helped my neighbour next door when he ran a new line to the new cistern. We increased the drop to 1/2" per ft. and all is well, so far.

Last week -22 F w/o wind chill. Two days later 48 F. Today back to 10 F, and diving fast.

When I can pee off the back deck with my dog for three days in a row I'll know spring is close.

I will assume you meant Septic tank, Cisterns are for storing water, often potable

We store sewage in 2000 gallon cisterns here when septic beds go bad. Hopefully the water guy doesn't fill the wrong cistern and vice versa.

82rude, do you have any idea if the lake ice (inland lakes, not the big water) up there is thicker than last year?

Those Great Lakes make for some large dumps of Snow. We have had about 2 1/2 ft all winter.

Yes they are ice fishing here in Ontario as far south as Lake Simcoe, Lake Erie is still ice free except a few miles offshore. I saw a Coast Guard vessel the other day, and Swans.

We too had another night of very high winds. Weather buoy south of the Welland Canal in Lake Erie showed peak gusts to 80KPH. We lost power here for 4 hours last night. My wife had to put her makeup on by candle light. When the power did come back on the shallow well water pump sounded like an ice making machine. Got lucky. Every time we get a power outage I remember I should invest in a small genny. They want $60,000.00 for a wind turbine that will get us off the grid. If I was 30 years younger I'd have one, no shortage of wind here 12 months a year. Around 3K to do what a Genny will do for less than 500 Samoleans. (Bugs Bunny currency). I need some fresh air.

I've had what I call 3 pyjama days this week. No reason to get dressed but do change about 15 minutes before my wife gets home from work. It's not my fault she was born later than I and continues to work full time. Actually the plan is for her to retire in June when we sell this place and downsize, not in size but in price. The only time I went outside the last few days was to take the trash out.

edit: Ooops I fibbed. I actually shoveled a path to the driveway the other day, broken back and all. Just took my time. By the time I finished the wind blew more back on the freshly cleared path than it had on it before I shoveled. A perfect example of misappropriation of resources.

Sucks. Too warm here. Again. Did the same thing last year in February. Got way too warm then cooled off with some frost again in March. I have home stuff to do which would be much easier in cooler weather.

Had 2 days of rain ... then today with the ending of the rain came high winds, cooling temperatures, downed trees and powerlines and mudslides. Been a fun day. We went from 50 degrees to 30 degrees today. Colder tonight and tomorrow with chances of snow on the horizon ... I don't like -10 to 50 degree weather over night. All our snow (except the piles) is gone ... bummer!

Since my earlier post the city hasn't plowed my street They must be saving up energy for the big push between 3 am and 5am where they will roar up and down the road at least 5 times It is a major street so they do keep it clean ,just a bummer it all ends up in my driveway and of course the neighbors too!I just go out to the garage, start the Polaris ace ,turn on the amber revolving light on the roof and go do driveways .Im retired so its winter entertainment .

I guess those were Famous Last Words...
Latest forcasts show Highs of -High Teens and lows in the mid to high -20s. Every year I grow to hate winter more and more. I guess the only good thing is, a prolonged cold snap like this can kill off those damn Pine Beetles
