Re: what is your job/title and do you love it

I worked in the power industry for 30 yrs. Moved somewhere where the fishing is better, and the scenery is awesome. I am easing into early retirement and work at a boat factory as maintenance manager... and design / implementation. Working with boats is great, but I think that my health will force me into full medical retirement soon.

Ugh, that sounds exactly like what's happening to the printing company my father-in-law works for. He pretty much just drives a forklift at this point and keeps his head down trying keep a job and stay outta the BS.

I see you are in Northern Arkansas. My father lives in Mountain Home, beautiful area, we've been vacationing there ever since I was about 4 years old. I'd love to move there if I could find a job in the area but i've been looking for years and sending resumes, no luck yet.

Solution Architect. Work with customers during the sales cycle to do anything from the technical point of view to accelerate the sales process. Love that I can work from home, can walk to the office when I feel like going in to the office, always get to play with something new, can work from the boat with my laptop, hot sopt and cell phone. Don't like the weeks when I am on a flight Monday morning and heading back home Friday night or the days I have to take the 6:am to Atlanta and the 6:pm back home. All and all I would say that I am 80% in love with it.

What a bummer ... that's gonna' be an increasingly tough racket to be in. Digital technology is changing things moment by moment and you have to be on your toes to keep it going. Glad you got out before it closed.

Most of my career, computers and currently IT Director in Healthcare. Funny story...I really don't like technology all that much but it's been a good living. But I am and have been many other things; a forensic investigator, retailer, executive, computer guru, traveler, fly fisherman, spiritual counselor, camper, hiker, husband, father, son, uncle, and friend. Oh...and a writer (which is what I prefer). The only thing I know for sure is that I do not plan on growing up.

Re: what is your job/title and do you love it

I have held a few titles over the years like most of you here, and I'm about to hold a new one.

Over the years I have been a Laborer, Lawn Sprinkler Installer, Carpenter, Air Frame Mechanic, Fabricator, Welder, Air Quality Technician, Service Tech HVAC/R, Senior Tech, Student, Security Officer, Dad, Husband, Grandpa, Mean Old S.O.B., and soon to be Director of Maintenance at a 100 bed medical facility.

The title I like the most is Marine.

Sounds like my wife's area of expertise... Direct Support Supervisor something or other...

I've had 30 different jobs and I am 31... so I'm not going to list them all. The one I like the most is USAF...probably because it's easiest to spell lol.

No my current gig is the best. Worst was when I had no job at all to be honest... I've had a lot of fun jobs...more so than I can remember terrible ones. From paper boy to network admin, to QC at a Grain Elevator.

The most unique would of been the grain elevator gig, I "probed" farmers semi loads of corn and soybean with a hydraulic arm...sucked up the grain into my shack which was a single-wide trailer on stilts. I got to meet a lot of interesting farmers and truckers doing that...and my co-workers. It takes a real interesting feller to clean the bottom of a river barge out, but we had guys who did that and rail cars.

The grain came in trucks, and left by barge and train... watching them dump the semi's was cool too! I recommend anyone with a small boy take them to a grain shipping yard sometime...it's quite fascinating.
