spent labor day weekend at powell. first trip there. all i can say is wow. its gigantic. beautifull scenery. we camped with several families. most are experienced powell boaters, so that was nice. it was my first time tying off my boat overnight. we were way up last chance bay. water was glass in the morning. but the main chanel is rough. stopped at rainbow bridge. gas at dangling rope was $4.10! cant wait to get back.

Off Topic but how active AZ boaters are you during the winter?

I do not see a reason to stop boating during the Winter Months. Now its time to break in the Fishing Poles.

I speaking to those that live in the PHX area and not up north.

Unfortunately I do park the boat for substantial periods of time during the winter months. The weather is fine for boating, but I find that I have less time. Once my kids start school, and then get involved in sports, I have a difficult time getting to the lake. My inability to boat during the winter really has nothing to do with the weather, and more to do with time. The days are also shorter in the winter, and that impacts the time I have for boating. With that said, I do manage to get out on the water a handful of times in the winter. My brother-in-law has a dry suit that fits both of us, so we still get to do water sports when we do get out. Water sports during the winter is ideal because glassy water is much easier to find. AZ water temps get in the mid 50's during the winter so I do recommend investing in a dry suit (not a wet suit) if you want take advantage of nearly perfect glassy conditions. If you have the time, and a good dry suit, you can do water sports year round in AZ.

Thanks for the Replies. Not sure if I'm that hard Core to go Water skiing in the Winter with a Dry Suit.

Just want to get out to the lake atleast once a month for fishing and to keep the boat in running condition. Things seem to break sitting long periods of time.

Its funny how the cost of maintenance and repairs is always present weather the boat is in the water or not... its just when your out on the lake those costs dont hurt as bad as when your spending money to look at Your boat in the drvway...

I boat with kids, the wife etc. I am expected to have everything available for everybody, except food, and when that gets messed up somehow it is my fault too . . . . I have two ways I solve stuff like this:

1) Keep it on the boat. If that's where I use it, that's where I keep it. This method can cause clutter and cleaning issues, but some things never leave the boat and

2) Make a decent pre-departure checklist. We are 4 1/2 hours from the lake, so if I forget something I am seriously in the dog house. I keep a checklist on the computer that I print before every trip. I add things if I remember them, but a notepad on the boat for things to add to the checklist might be a good idea. You can even use your cell phone "notepad" for stuff like this. Since we boat for a long weekend almost every trip, I also have things that I need to do at home before I leave on the checklist, like "tape NASCAR race" . . .

Leaving the Tube pump behind was my wifes fault. She used it to pump up an air mat. Do I tell her its her fault. Heck No. I want to keep my man hood in tack.

Re: What is your Favorite Arizona Lake

Born and raised in Tucson, went to Saguaro High School class of 86 before I moved with my family to Colorado. I was slalom skiing at apache since I was 9 yrs old and if it counts thats my favorite far and away. I remember the hot boats going out at sundown on friday and saturday evening, Burnt Corral it just didnt get any better then that. Now 20+ years later Me and my wife are planning to take our boat down to AZ next summer and hit the salt river chain, should be an eye opening experience with all the changes that have gone on since then, when I moved they were just building the bridge at roosevelt dam, and you could boat to within ten feet of roosevelt dam on the apache side, by the looks of the pictures in this thread can you still boat to the hot springs near the roosevelt dam?

I have noticed the same trend each of the last 6 seasons since I bought my boat. I think it has something to do with College football being on TV. Just a guess.

Next time, if you boat over to the marina, by the restaurant, there's an air hose attached to the mechanic's office wall. I've used it a few times for this exact situation, and no one has ever said anything to me.

Saguaro lake is my default lake because it's 20-30 minutes away. I wouldn't say it's my favorite though.

Saguaro is close
Pleasant has super clear water
Canyon is beautiful
Roosevelt is huge, but way far
Apache might be least crowded, but I would either have to pass Roosevelt, or take a trailer down fish creek hill, and I'm scared of heights.

The triple digit temps are sure trying their darndest to hang on into fall. I am still looking for my AZ boat. I'm heading to Lake Pleasant either way next weekend. Should be beautiful with temps around 90. Hopefully I will lay into a striper or 2.

I have gotten some good boating done. we went to Mohave and pleasent. pleasent was ok. lots of floating debris and lots of people flying around on jet skis. the Marina's are awesome. the restaurant at scorpion bay is delicious and they have hot waitress In bikinis...
mohave is by far the best lake in Arizona. You can't go 5 minutes without seeing 2 or 3 little finger coves with private beaches in them. the water is so clear the bottom is visable at like 40 ft deep. while we were there I went snorkeling And I almost feltlike I was in a tropical ocean. just a few lessfish.its quite a drive but wellworth It I.
