Re: What is your boat's top speed?

Gee, it sounds like you guys are using JATO (Jet Assisted Take Off) Packs to reach speeds in the low - mid 50s with 4.3Mercs. My 19' SeaRay with a 205HP Merc 4.3L would only hit 45, at most, going downhill with a stiff tailwind, and only then if I didn't care that she might blow up.

Some of it may have to do with the hull design... I'm in the mid 50's with a 4.3L ;)

Hull design, weight, props, load, operator, altitude, winds, waves, bimini, Aunt Freida, Uncle Albert, rating, incompetence, current, honesty, dishonesty, loneliness, ego, luck, karma, religion, gravity, Horoscope, tides . . . and then there's the intangibles

It's not relevent to Hostage's specific interest, but I'll add some data for general information.
16' Jersey speed skiff (flat bottom)
~ 1700lbs
Chevy 350 inboard (1:1 reverse gear)
13"x14.5" two blade cupped prop.
somewhere above 70 mph @ about 5500 RPM

regal 1800 4.3L 19 ss prop, 2 adults 3 kids and a tail wind, speedo hit 55 at 5000 rpm. I do believe the stepped hull helps alot.

Re: What is your boat's top speed?

I am curious about the Glastron, it is supposedly a much lighter boat than the other ones I am looking at, but one owner of the same year and model says his goes "roughly 40 on a calm day". I also heard some complaints about the seaworthiness of the lighter Glastrons in heavier weather.

The Wellscraft I am looking at the owner said it is stated to go 50mph, but he has seen it only up to 46mph. The Wellscraft also has a SS prop, not yet sure what difference a SS prop vs a aluminum prop would be, but I guess that is what Google is for.

That's easy... SS is for performance props, Aluminum is for beer cans.... but I'm sure 900 people will quote this and disagree :D

Re: What is your boat's top speed?

14 foot flat bottom, stock FORCE 125, New old stock Chrysler 12 X 21 cupped stainless cleaver prop, 15 gallons fuel, one seat, one driver, one vest, one oar and one fire extinguisher. 5900 RPM, 60 MPH gps corrected for current.

With mods this summer I hope to get to 65.

Re: What is your boat's top speed?

Exactly what I was thinking. For pinks, you name the place . . .

For pinks? Cool! Your Sea Nymph has to be nicer than my '64 Sea King. My Johnson would fit right on there. Let's see...what location is about halfway between your place and mine?

Oh, wait. Never mind. It would cost more in fuel than either of our tinnies are worth. Let's just have a virtual race. Whaddya say?

Roger that, although I was thinking north end of Lake Powell  My Nymph is early 70's if I remember . . .

How about my 12.5 MPH was with just me and two 11 year old kids, so alone I think I just kicked your arse

Well, if I left all my fishing gear at home, I might just eke out 15 mph. It could be a real race. ;)
