I have cut out rotten stringers on my 1981 sea ray srv 255 and am left with about an inch more next to hull. What are the best tools for cutting out the rest without damaging the hull? What tye of saw? Planer? Belt sander? Thanks all.

welcome to iboats....

4 inch angle grinder with a rubber backing pad and a 26 grit disc........comes off like butter.

use all safety gear...if you need to know what to use.....click the link in the top of the restoration forum....safety basics of grinding and glassing.

click the link in my sig for detailes of fiberglassing and building stringers....deck....transom....ect.

Yep, what he said. I used a 7 inch grinder, but it tended to be pretty violent.

cap....if you take pics of the boat......and start a thread in the restoration section.....we can walk you thru this whole ordeal.

there are about 50 current restorations (transom stringers and deck) going on there right now. with answers to each and every question you might have

I just cut out the stringers on my 21 foot Renken and I used a Fein Multitool. There are also genereric tools out there that do the same job but that work excellant for that application.

+1 on the long blade sawzall. Much less dust, which was good for me since I was close to neighbors and without an enclosed garage.
