Re: What do you pull your boat with?

I just recently purchased a 14' 1967 Glasspar Marathon and Evinrude 25HP outboard and tow it with my 89' 4cyl 5sp Mustang. Around here in the flatlands of southern New Jersey it tows just fine. Here's a pic.

I usually pull my 15' bowrider with my '97 1500 chevy, but at times if the ramp is steep or soft i'll use my '93 3500 dually turbodiesel - love those dual rear wheels!

wanna know what happens when you use a bumper hitch???

Nope, I'd say most folks DON'T want to know what happens.

They'd rather remain ignorant to the fact that their towing practices/vehicles are NOT safe for the loads they tow.

Ignorance is bliss, right?

Well at least that what can happen with a bumper hitch in poor condition. However, since there isn't even a hitch ball on that step bumper, then I doubt it was a towing problem. There is nothing wrong with using a bumper hitch in proper condition towing a trailer within its rated capacity. Even a receiver hitch in poor condition can fail.

Depends...

If its a close local day trip, we pull with my 07 Avalanche LTZ

If its a weekend away, we pull with a 38 foot motorhome with Ford V10. Always get a few good looks backing the boat down with that.

I pull mine with a 97 GMC Sierra Z-71 with a 5.7Ltr engine(350ci) It still gets the job done but I do wish it had the tow/haul mode........Irv964
(Pic is of my previous boat, new boat is a lot heavier!)

And some people seem to think they know better than the engineers that build the cars and clearly indicate the tow capacities of the cars, trucks, SUVs and bumbers in the manual and stamped on them.

I only got about 2 miles one way to the lake, and being in Florida and all, I dont have to worry about hills. So, I have never really been worried about it. My boat is way under the weight capacity. I can actually hardly feel the boat behind when its on the trailer properly (I had a friend load the boat one time - it was almost a foot to far right and not winched up all the way. Was a big problem towing at that point...).

The guy who owned the truck before me messed it up. He had a Resse hitch on it, and when he took it off, cut the mounting section of the frame. So, I would have to weld a new one on.
I am just going to wait for the truck to die and buy a Bronco or something, but until then, the Bumper Hitch is all I gets.

I tow with the pickup in my signature. Sometimes I have the 5th wheel in between the pickup and the boat- tandem towing. Nice to get to the lake and have my home with me!
