the jury is still out for me.......i do allready miss the look of the iboat forum.....it just looked like home....lol

they have just added the report post button.....but the emotions are not yet added to the reply to post page......as we were discussing in dockside a while back.....emotions are necessary in keeping the forum friendly

Re: What do we think of the new site?

WEll, there is obviously still a lot of work to do. I just tried search on my user name and came back with THREE (count 'em 3) posts, the most recent of which was a little over 2 years ago. I'm not a particularly prolific poster, but I think I have a few more than that.

Basically, I don't like it. An auto racing forum I frequent went to this version about a year and a half ago and I don't particularly like it either. Theirs is smoothed out now and doesn't have the squinched up threads or names running over into the ads but this is about as good as it gets.

Also, on my 7 year old Dell, this is somewhat slower, very chunky scrolling through threads. I'm sure that won't be noticeable on my laptop but I haven't tried it yet.

All that said (whined), beggars can't be choosers and we still have a free boating forum at our disposal, so how bad can it be? Keep on boating!

This is the 2nd one of my frequented forums that's made this change. I didn't like it at first, but as my eyes adjust to it I care less and less.

How are You supposed to look at pictures?
The pictures are in the middle 1/3 of the moniter and only
1/3 of the picture is shown.
It's no fun having to scroll side to side to view .
I hope they work this out.

I just noticed this while checking out my restore thread. All the pictures are cut off on the right; in order to get the whole picture in, I have to reduce the text size to where it's too small for my old eyes. I can't scroll side-to-side, there's no scroll bar on the bottom (using Firefox).

Edit: Just found the scroll bar under each group of pictures, not at the bottom of the screen, but if there are several pics, I have to keep going to under the bottom one to scroll, then scroll back up to see the (partial) other ones above. Keep having to go back and forth to check out individual pictures.

You have to change your settings in your control panel from the new settings to make the pictures work like they used to.

Go to the top right of the screen and on the blue bar, click on Settings

attachment.php

On the left side, click on General Settings under My Account

attachment.php

Then scroll down near the bottom under Misc. Options set it up as shown in this picture. Then click the SAVE button.

Re: What do we think of the new site?

I have become extremely resistant to change for change sake! Some of the past changes were quite painfull. So far, this one seems to be going pretty smooth.

That being said, I am sure that iboats had good reason to upgrade and don't forget all, we have been thru these changes/upgrades before and they usually get everything massaged back to more familiar appearances.

Now I'm wondering how many changes/upgrades this site has survived? Anybody know? They haven't all been this smooth :D

I know my 2 cents is only worth about a penny but I think change is good. I like the new site. Good job iboats. I forgot, the only thing I miss is the "my replies" button.

You gotta keep up with the times or else get left behind. We switched to the latest V-bulletin some time ago on another site and it doesn't take long to get to like it. But then no matter what you do there will be complaints. Some people would complain if they got hung with a new rope.

Thanks Don, but this doesn't seem to changed the picture display issue. I still have to zoom out and see very small type to get the entire picture widths to display.

Can't get to the brand specific Forums? I just get a Page Not Found warning?

I still miss being able to easily see my last posts, I hope a button for this is on it's way?

The log in area is vague, hard to see the Log In button in the dark background.

.

In the task bar, click "Quick Links" and then "Subscriptions".
That will give a list of threads that you have replied to or started.
It is really no different from "My Replies" except that you have the option of "unsubscribing" ewhich allows you to keep your subscripttion bucket as ful or as empty as you want.
You still can use "advanced search" to get your posts as far back as they are kept here.

Re: What do we think of the new site?

This picture posting really sucks. Having to scroll from side to side and then up and down to look at the entire picture. This has ruined this forum. If I resize them to fit you cant see the darn things. I think I will just keep my pics to myself from now on...

Why Oh Why cant they just leave well enough alone???

What Tim said or even easier is to click "Settings" upper right and it goes straight to unread replies. Clicking "View all Subscribed Threads" takes you to the next level.
