Enjoyed the pics Xtrom, I like the color. Interesting to note that your WW has the same mfg. decal as Scamp Deluxe WW, i.e., made by K&G Research & MFG, see posting #46, dated Oct. 17,2012. There was some discussion on the address listed on that decal.

Greetings all. Received an invite to display my Water Wasp at next month's Chicago Boat & RV show. This is a huge indoor event at the largest convention center in the United States, here's a link, Official Site of the Chicago Boat, Sports & RV Show . This should be big fun, ( a piece of summer in the middle of a Midwest winter) will be sure to post pics, oldscout.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread. Thanks.

If I see one of these somewhere I'll buy it in a second. It looks like so much fun. About as useful as a moped, but fun nonetheless. It reminds me of the wokart I saw the other day. I don't think they'll sell many wokarts though as the article I saw said they were going to start at around $25k. WoKart ? | The ultimate in Personal Water Transport

Drove into downtown Chicago with the Water Wasp today for the upcoming Chicago Boat and RV Show, she'll be on display there as mentioned earlier. The weather here lately really blows, super cold last week, it will be nice to take part in a "Summertime" event. Here's a couple of pics taken today during set-up. Will post a couple more when the shows opens, stay warm.

Thanks for the additional pix. How many orders did you get for Water Wasps? LOL This winter stuff is making another pass at us here at the Edge of America. Hang in there because I believe Spring is coming! We'll see what that groundhog does next weekend.

Re: Water Wasp Mini Boat

Hello All.....I am looking for a water wasp to restore...I grew up in Minnesota and neighbors at our summer lake cabin had a wasp, with a 25 hp Evinrude on it...took a bit to get it on plane, but once it got running, it ran fast!!.
I'm now an old guy but still have that need for speed from time to time...if anyone has info on where I might acquire a water wasp in restorable condition, Please let me know...I live in Dallas now, but will travel whatever distance I need to pick up the boat. Great job to those of you are have or are in the process of rebuilding a wasp....they were a ton of fun..just a little ahead of their time perhaps.

Welcome aboard, as they say, Jeff.

Tell you what - you can have mine. It's going on year number 2 and I'm no closer to WW restoration than I was in September '12 when I started this thread.

It was my thought at the time that my Dad would be interested in the restoration / resurrection process. I would jump in and assist when this busy life allowed. Well, it hasn't happened that way, and my WW still sits in a barn in Upstate NY patiently waiting the restorative surgery that'll once again get her back in the water.

Yes, spring is just around the corner here, or at least that's what we're telling ourselves, and I don't anticipate being any closer to start time than I was in the past 18 months. It may be an appropriate time to "abandon ship".

So, in answer to your question, Yes, I know where you can get one that's a perfect core for the resurrection process.

Re: Water Wasp Mini Boat

In Sept of 2012, this thread was started by Bakeys, a great guy who stumbled upon a Water Wasp looking for a new home, bought it and began this thread to find answers about his majestic new vessel, made in Savage, Minnesota.
An entertaining and accomplished group of followers have chimed in since his original post with words and photos, remarkable photos ranging from immaculately restored Wasps, to those very much in need of a little TLC!!. I grew up in the Minneapolis area, knew very well where Savage was and had the opportunity to spend many a good time on my neighbors Wasp in the mid 70's. It had an Evinrude 25hp on it, and it was a hoot to say the least. A few years back, I was in Brugge, Belgium and saw something similar to a Wasp and it planted a seed..I was going to find one and relive a few teen memories, and make a few new ones with my 2 young daughters. There is a point to my rambling...Bakeys saw my initial post and request for any information on where I could get my hands on one..and he replied with an offer...several emails and a cross country shipment later, I now have Bakeys boat!!
On the morning of 17 March, I took delivery of a beautiful, "slightly worn..only used on weekends" 1970 Water Wasp. The boat is solid and without doubt restorable. Hurrah!!. I have a lot of work ahead of me, but it will be an absolute labor of love.
I want to publicly thank Bakeys for his willingness to part with his Wasp. These are rare and unique little boats and I'm proud to be in the club..I'm making room to start my restoration and will try to keep this board posted with my progress.
Thanks again Chris!.

Re: Water Wasp Mini Boat

JTakin,
Well, this summer it'll be two years of having the WW in my possession and being basically no further than the day I got it.
Life is simply too busy. And my summers get busier as I give up my Saturdays willingly to instruct the NY Boating Safety course. So what weekend time I did have is now cut in half.
So, my friend, I will simply have to live vicariously through your restoration and know that your appreciation runs much deeper than mine.
However, please consider signing over any and all of your assets and tangible property to me prior to any 25hp engine installation.

Be well, be blessed, be safe.

Re: Water Wasp Mini Boat

I would also like to thank Bakeys for starting this thread. I had been on other Boat sites looking for other Wasp owners with no luck for a few years. Then a friend on one of those sites came across Bakeys posting and alerted me. I am not alone anymore.

Chris,

It's nice to hear that there will be another WW in MN. I have owned my WW for over 40 years. I live in Lakeville MN and used to take my Wasp to Prior Lake, Lake Marion and Island Lake (up north). I've had an old '50s vintage Johnson 25 HP and a newer Evenrude 25 HP on my boat. I have never seen another one on the water with any kind of motor on it. I am wondering what lake you used to go to with you neighbor? I'm guessing that we missed each other buy a few years. I used my WW in the '70s & '80s. If I ever get mine out of storage, we should meet at a lake someday.

Re: Water Wasp Mini Boat

Hi Rich...I think your question may have been for me. I grew up in the Twin Cities (Richfield, Bloomington), but now live in Dallas, TX.....22 yrs of Minnesota winters sent me seeking warmer climates many years ago!!.
We had a cabin on E Round Lake, just North of Garrison, MN..Home of the Blue Goose..(in my younger days, I stumbled out the door of that legendary watering hole a few times!!).....and it was on this lake that we buzzed around on the WW.
I read your post with a smile since I am very familiar with Pryor lake and oddly enough, was fishing through a hole in the ice on Lake Marion this past January. Still have friends and family in the Minneapolis area.
I don't believe I have ever come across a WW anywhere besides the one that lived next door to us, but it apparently made a huge impression on me!.
I'm a Pilot and not home as much as I would like to be, but I hope to have this restoration completed and in the water by the end of this summer......that may be wishful thinking, but that's my plan.
I have all the steering hardware and front handle, but am missing the chrome "scoop" from the front of the cowling...the light is something I will probably alter so not too concerned with finding an original light...but would like to hear from anyone who may have an extra chrome scoop sitting around.

Now wait just a minute...
I'm not goin anywhere!
This has been one of my favorite threads to follow! Ever!
Great crew of guys with a common interest, helpful advice, encouragement, enthusiasm, even the occasional nav-light!
So, even though Jeff has what was once my WW, I get to enjoy this ongoing thread and watch it hopefully transform into another classic piece of history and beauty. Yeah, that was a stretch, but you get where I'm coming from.
So gentlemen, onward this thread continues, with me watching enthusiastically.

Blessings to all,

I just double checked my previous post and It looks like the photos are not there anymore. I'll dig some up in the next day or two and post. If you are interested you can email me directly Edited email:. I'll update the post if I sell it. It is sitting out in front of our cabin for sale so first come, first serve.

Attempting to buy or sell a boat is clearly prohibited by forum rules. However I do appreciate the fact that you are willing to post your e-mail address here where anyone with access to the internet can harvest it for any purpose they choose.
