Water splashing over transom help

Installed this new motor on a friends boat. It doesn’t have electric trim, only the tilt rod thing. We had it set at one notch above the lowest setting and the boat was proposing. Lowered it down one notch (lowest it will go) and now water is spraying over the transom, but no longer porpoising. Water is only splashing over the port side. Water is spraying out and back like it’s supposed to on starboard side Can the hydrofoil cause this? Any tips?

Take the fin off the leg and see if that fixes the issue

Next thing is I'm thinking the motor needs to be lowered a bit further

Thank you. It’s as lows as it’s going to go, without a jack plate or some other form of lowering it. I’ll take the fins off and see what happens.

Maybe the pics are deceiving, but it looks like the motor is mounted too high.

If the fin was the problem it would splash on both sides.

Is the motor mounted perfectly in the center? Is the hull deformed?

The av plate is approx 1/2-1 inch higher than the keel. I removed the fins and it has seemed to have fixed the issue. However the starboard side water is shooting out like a rooster tail while port side is just kinda weakly shooting straight up, not coming in the boat anymore

Motor is perfectly center. Hull isn’t deformed as far as I’m aware. The plate around the av plate was slightly bent, took some vice grips and straightened it as best as I could. Haven’t tested it since that. The removal of fins have helped, water isn’t splashing in boat anymore , but one side is shooting straight up the other side shooting straight back

There's your answer. That's why the fin exacerbated the problem. You have a damaged lower unit that is out of alignment.

Sorry, I’m new to outboards. When u say out of alignment, you mean the entire lower unit? How would I get it in alignment? Would straightening it out the way I did not be sufficient?

It may help to actually raise the motor 1/2".

It may cause the prop to ventilate, but worth a try.

The alignment of the AV plate and any other below water components. Obviously, the lower unit got damaged.

Bending aluminum like you did MAY eventually cause it to crack. When you straightened it, did you put it PERFECTLY back into specs?

Try it out again. If it still is causing a problem make precise measurements and bend it some more if it's still out of alignment.

I am a long time endorser of fins because of the advantages they provide. In fact, yours is the preferred brand. But, now that we know you have a bent AV plate, DON'T put it back on.

One picture shows a transducer that is broken off. The plastic piece should be removed. Another picture shows a transducer that looks to be mounted too low, thus it's a roostertailer.

Regardless, the transducer is mounted on the side opposite of the problem.

The transducer has been removed while attempting to dial the motor in

But yes, very good eye. The Mount stayed on the entire time and I didn’t even really consider that to be the cause of the starboard side rooster tailing the way it is
