Your post #1 indicated that the "problem" was water spraying over the transom on the port side. Thus, the transducer is not the cause.
"Shooting straight up" is a rooster tail, indicating an abnormality (or a device designed for that purpose). "Shooting straight back" indicates a protrusion in the water (like a transducer).
