I was boating lastweek and one of the plugs for the lower unit oil vibrated loose and took in water, and now my engine bogs down when you go to accelerate. Have I damaged the whole lower unit. 1989 Evinrude 110hp

Re: Water in lower unit

i assume you drained the lower, and refilled, did you use new plug seal on them. i doubt the lower would cause bogging. you can remove the spark plugs, and turn the flywheel buy hand, and feel any binding spots. in neutral and in gear.

i suspect you have another problem. you need to check compression, and spark on all 4 cylinders. spark jump at least 1/2 inch, compression with in 10% of each other. post your readings. then we go to other causes.

Yes I did drain and refill. I will check the compression and the plugs. I found a little metal shavings when I drained the oil so that scared me a little. I will check tonight and re-post. Thank you for your suggestions.

Re: Water in lower unit

shavings are normal, chunks are bad.
