Yes microwave -- very easy & safer // I will have to try out those navy beans -- I would imagine its easier to keep them out of the seems.

Given the boating theme on your envelope pillows -- That even qualifies as a " Manly " project.

Wanted to update my journey with the Rex 607Z. I will say this, I had no complaints about the way it sewed. I added the Sailrite power wheel and that made a big difference in the machine. I was able to easily sew thru 6 layers of Sunbrella and a layer of clear vinyl with no problem. The power wheel also made the machine a lot easier to control.
So after getting the machine set up I thought I was ready to get on with my project. I was wrong ! While sewing one last test piece the oscillating shaft broke.
Needless to say I was not a happy camper!
The good thing is I bought it off of Amazon and they have a good return policy. I contacted the seller about the issue and was told they would send me the parts. That was three weeks ago and still no parts. I file a claim with Amazon yesterday and today I received a full refund.
I knew when I bought this machine I was either going to get a good one or a bad one. Unfortunately for me I got a bad one. The problem is the metal that is used in these machines is poor and it is my feeling is that they will fail after a short period of time.

PS I have got my new Salirite LZ1 last Thursday.

Sorry for your troubles but... The clones do suffer from inferior parts production.
For the price you paid for the LSZ1 You can buy a Really Good used Consew or Juki Walking foot on Craigslist. Just wondering if you considered that. They are much better machines and WON't break down.

When Sailrite used that design they had a U bolt welded to that exact piece for the exact same reason. They do a comparison about parts and its in there.
I suspect when used with the standard little wheel all is fine. The bigger wheel adds a lot more torque causing that part to brake.

Received my power wheel for my REX. It did make if more pleasurable to use. Been practicing, but waiting for the weather to break, for the real test. Figured in a month. Hope to not have any trouble with the oscillating shaft.

WOG, I've been researching this for over a year and have read most of your post on this . I believe I've considered every possible option out there. I took a shot at the Rex and had to admit defeat. I didn't lose any money on it. Just time and pride.
I looked for a good used machine but it seems in my area everybody wants a top dollar for them. Bid on several on ebay and they ended up almost as much as a new machine. Craigslist if they were any good they get gone fast and the rest are junk.
As far as the Sailrite machine I know it is a lot of money but I've read nothing but good things about them and they seem to provide very good support.
Also the Admiral told me she didn't want me to buy another project.:D She is actually doing the sewing. I just provide the grunt work.:D
Besides the boat we have number of other projects that will require a heavy duty machine and I have two brother in laws that are requesting use of the machine.

I got a lot to do in the next month I don't want to be up on the hill come April.

There is a guy selling a Consew 226R like mine a few miles away from me for $550 that is a WAY better machine than that Sailrite.

Here is a Juki that looks like in perfect condition for $450

I just don't understand why you would buy a Chinese machine when you can get these quality commercial machines for this low.

Add a servo motor for $100 and you have a machine you can use for the next 10 years and sell it for what you paid for it.

Not sure where you live but...as others have stated, I have a Consew and a Brother listed on my Craigslist currently and Both are less than what you paid. I truly believe the SR machine is far superior to the REX and will probably hold up MUCH better than any of the others since they control the total manufacturing process of their machines. But...The Big Industrial machines ARE going to be Much better and hold their value as Bruce states. Thats why they are so HIGH on CL still!!!! If you Pay $700 for one today you can use it for 5 years and sell it for $700 when you're done with it!!!

Those sort of industrial sewing machine deals are not to be found here in VT :blue: -- Although I keep looking from time to time. If anyone sees a good deal with shipping or near Burlington VT please post it.

notlef Sailrite sells an upgraded oscillating shaft or you could weld on a reinforcement to your new one when it arrives // Good info for the rest of us.

Thanks for posting

I"m in North Carolina. Used industrial Machines that aren't beat to death are hard to come by. Good machines get gone quick. A few years ago you could buy machines all day long for 300 - 500. Now you have to be in the right place at the right time. I'm well aware of the quality of these machines as I spent 5 years of my life keeping these type of machines running.
I am not stating a business, this is just a hobby for me. I just wanted a portable machine that I could use and then just store on the shelf. The Sailrite machine fits that need.
As far as out of pocket expense.
The Rex didn't cost me anything with all the Amazon gift cards and rebates that I had. I got a full refund, So I'm good. I did spend 100.00 on the Power Wheel but I sold that to a buddy for 80.00 and beer.
The SailRite machine which I also got off Amazon was 350.00 out of pocket and I got a 2 year warranty in case there is any problem.

And the biggest reason I got the Sailrite machine is because the wife likes. If she's happy then I'm happy. She's going to be doing the sewing on this project.

There IS a lot to be said about having a Light Weight Portable walking foot. That is one of the drawbacks for me. My Big ole' WF is in the shop soooo I end up using my Singer 15-91 on smaller projects and staying in the house sometimes and not going out to the shop and firing up the heater etc... just to do a small job. If I had the LSZ1 I wouldn't have to do that. I just cant' see paying that kind of money for one though. If I ever find one for $250-$300. I'll buy it for sure!!!

How did you buy a SR LSZ1 For $350???
