So I've run it a few times around the lake now. The pattern is the same. First start, the engine rocks back and forth. Turn it off, wait 2 seconds, turn it back on engine smooth as silk. I've attached a video, the first time is rough and the second time I start is smooth.

I'm waiting for the fuel pump to cycle before I start it, I just wonder if maybe it's not delivering enough fuel that everything's firing correctly until the second time

Yeah typically I do. Seems like one out of five times it starts rough, turn it off turn it on and it's just fine. Seems to be vastly under powered from what I recall last year. I replaced the cap, the rotor, the plug wires and coil wire. Checked the coil spark and it is hot blue so it seems good.

Wondering if I could be having a fuel pump / fuel delivery issue which is why I'm only hitting about 30-31 top end instead of 45-45mph

This thread has come a long way from "won't roll over" and I'm starting to forget things

What is fuel pressure at the rail when it first starts and runs rough?
Pressure when it runs ok?
Pressure cruising and WOT?

Going to do a fuel pressure test tomorrow so will know.

Also, any suggestions on a filter wrench for the water seperator that "isn't" nearly impossible to get on there?

Changed the fuel water seperator after checking fuel pressure. Still seems to run rough 1 out of 5 starts, engine rocks the boat. Turn it off, restart, runs fine.

Absolutely night and day once I added fluid to the steering pump. Still blows my mind. No more bouncing around/rocking on startup from time to time and the engine sits and idles smooth as it ever did. I would say that this point that I'm all set, and I sincerely appreciate all that each of you contributed. Learned a lot with all of the this or that I had to do. Is there a way to or should I try to close this thread?
