Johnson 25 HP Seahorse

I have never owned a boat before. (Seriously, I need explicit instructions)

I purchased a 1964 Sears Jon Boat with a 25 HP Johnson outboard motor. It was used for duck hunting so the whole thing is painted army green including the motor.

I can't find the plate with the serial/model number. I wanted to order a repair manual so I can start learning a little about the motor and minor maintenance stuff.

I am not sure how to take the top cover off. Sorry to sound so ignorant, but actually I kinda am.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!! :)

Re: Trying to find the model/serial number

I will have to try looking at it tomorrow (in the daylight). I am not 100% sure of what the motor mount is. But I will try to figure it out.

It would help if everything wasn't painted green.

Re: Trying to find the model/serial number

Depends on the year. Some were here, some were there.

What is the hood made of? Metal? Fiberglass? Early metal ones were held on by a bunch of screws. Then they had a buckle on each side, the rear flipped up and the whole thing slid forward and off. Generally, fiberglass ones have latch on the rear that pulls down, then tilt it forward a bit and lift it off.
