2002 Four Winns Horizon 180, 4.3L VP with GXi outdrive.

Hey guys so my trim gauge usually works for about 2 minutes when I first run the boat, then goes batshit for about an hour, then usually comes to rest either full up or full down... I've replaced the gauge, the rheostat and traced the wires... I cant find a damn thing. Its not like i really need to have it working, i know the boat enough but i hate having my **** not functioning as it should. Any suggestions?

Next time when it goes out, put a multimeter on the sender wires inside the boat (usually somewhere between back of the engine and transom. Is it still showing or out of business. I suspect water intrusion to the sender body.

Trim sender are notorious for going bad quickly. Sometimes a couple years is about all you get. A very poor design for what they cost. Either drastically reduce the cost or make them to last. Best advice, unless you have money to burn is to learn to go without. I time mine, full up to full down and mentally countdown so that I know what position the drive is in.
