Re: Transom, Stringers...........help!

There is no reason for your application to tie your deck to your stringers m8..

In fact..it might hurt.

Your SS screws will do nothing for structural..

As long as you tab your deck to the hull I dont think anything else is required... ( screwing into your stringers where you cannot water tight those fasteners could end up being a fail point ).

YD.

I hear ya Doc, but it's a pretty small boat so I thought it wasn't too big a deal. I haven't fully decided what to do. There are so many opinions, and me being inexperienced, it's sometimes hard to know which is the right decision to make. As far as the screw holes, I had planned to seal each hole.
Do you suggest putting nothing between the deck and the stringers? Doesn't that leave potential for noise from the deck and stringers rubbing? That would drive me NUTS!!!

Thanks for your input.

Well I sure hope PL does a good job-----that's what I used.lol-Mine is a tri hull 14ft'er I used 1/2"ply,glassed both sides & edges,PL'ed that boy down, tabbed away and it's very stable feeling. No springing, etc.I was concerned about which way to run the ply deck,it's stronger end to end as you well know.Well, didn't seem to matter cause I ran it with the length of the boat, not xgrained.Worked fine-I think it gains strength with glassing both sides. And time you tab it in good--I think you'll be pleased.I figure it'll outlast me in the long run.:D

strtbobber..

Try the PL m8.. Screw and glue the deck down.

YD.

PS. If it were to hurt anything..It probably wont be your problem at that time :) .

Re: Transom, Stringers...........help!

Progress is slow, but I figured I'd do an update. Flipped the hull last week. I have the stringers glassed in and the transom is in but needs to be tabbed in and glassed. I have the deck pieces roughly cut and set aside for now. I figured I'll do the gel coat and paint at least on the very bottom of the hull because I don't have much help flipping the hull back and forth. It's getting heavy with the new transom, stringers and glass....and it'll be heavier if I install the deck and more glassing before flipping it.

Half the hull is ready for gel coat repairs and primer. Did all the filling and repairing that I plan to do. Started sanding the other half of the hull tonight. Been working on the boat all day and most of the evening. Made good progress today.....:D!

Ordered my gel coat yesterday....they had gray but since my hull is white, that's what I ordered. Should be here on Thursday.

I've decided to go with Interprotect as primer. Hopefully I'll get that far this weekend.

......until next time....

Re: Transom, Stringers...........help!

Well, I've got some work done in the past month or so. Not too much, though. Got the stringers and transom glassed in, flipped the hull and went to work. Did some gel coat repairs, primed with Interprotect, and painted with Interlux Brightside. Looks good.

I want to thank all the guys who have helped me on here. All info/advice, be it positive or negative, was very helpful. Thank you! And a very Merry Christmas and all the best to all you guys in the new year. :D

Thanks, fellow Canadian. Eventhough it's not a high end job, I do take pride in her. It's turning out better than I had imagined. Thanks for your kind/encouraging words.

All the best in the new year!!
