Transom Question

I'm replacing the transom on a 14 foot Collins craft and need to know the height to cut it. It had been butchered when I got so I don't have anything to go by. I measured my engine (1971 Mercury 40HP) from where it would sit on the transom to the cavitation plate and it measures 17 inches. So, from the bottom center outside of the boat, how tall should the transom be.

Re: Transom Question

Thanks for the reply ezmobee. I went ahead and cut it last night so my cavitationis almost a 1/4 inch higher than the center bottom since the boat has a small V to the bottom. Hope it works out ok.

Re: Transom Question

That will be fine. Even with is just a starting point. It can sometimes be an inch or more above.
