Hi All,

I have noticed that my boat when trying to get it out of the water scrapes on the bottom frame of the trailer. I have tried lowering the trailer into the water where the trailer bunks only peek out of the water, I have tried where the tips are out 3" I have tried with it out 1" but every time the bottom of the hull slides on the frame. I have attached a few pictures on one of the pictures I have circeld on where the bottom of the hull slides on. You can see a little rust, I have noticed that when I got it last year.

Any sugestions on what I should do?
Thanks

Re: Trailer issues

I'd try just adding another roller or 2 if necessary, the same type as you have but further back where the contact point is. - Grandad

Re: Trailer issues

what about another roller set lower right behind the section where the side rails meet the center rail. That would give the boat something to ride along and hold it up till it got up to the front roller. Ive never paid attention to the rollers on my trailers nor do i have expertise in this. im sure someone who knows more than i do will give there advise.

1st of all move that roller to under the keel and not under the bow as it shows in your 3rd picture.. Then add another roller ot 2 on the tounge and then if needed raise the bunks so that they are flat against the bottom.

Picture 4, I would add 2 of these, one each to the frame crossmembers.

So currently for me to add another roller I would need to raise the bunks about 2", because currently the clearance between the bottom of the hull and the trailer is 1 3/4". I am assuming the brackets that the bunks sit on can be purchased that will allow me to raise that up 2".

So keel is that added peace on the hull? Im sorry I am new to this and still trying to understand all the terms. I can also add two more after that if I need to leave that one in place...

Currently none of the photos you've posted show any of the bunk brackets so how can we tell?

Re: Trailer issues

Yes the keel would be the flat part that runs down the center.

Best I can tell is that yes the whole boat needs to be raised. I don't think those brackets I referenced will adjust low enough to leave the bunks where they are. Also the one roller on the front needs to be moved back so that it is under the keel and on a flat spot.

Thanks for the explanation... Here is a picture of the bunk brackets. It looks like I cant adjust these but I'm sure I can get new few of those. bunk_bracket.jpg

Re: Trailer issues

I believe you're getting the idea now! Will be a little bit of an investment but well worth the effort. Besides you have all winter to get'r done and be ready for next season!

I would simply start by moving the bow roller back as suggested so it is under the keel. You may be using a steep ramp as well which means no matter how many rollers you add the bow may still strike the frame. Do the simple things first.

Yes I got the idea. I will start as soon as I can find those brackets. I havt to get it done while we still have some nice weather comming up, since I dont have a way of lifting the boat from the trailer. I will go to the closest ramp and launch and then get everything done. Shouldt take that long...

Yes, the ramp is a little steep but I have run into the the same issues on other less steeper ramps

Re: Trailer issues

One question - do you have the right size trailer for the boat? I couldn't tell from the photos - but how far does the boat hang over the back of the trailer?

If you look at picture 4 on my first post the end of the boat hangs 1/2" over the bunks. This is the original trailer that came with this boat..

Re: Trailer issues

I don't see how raising the bunks will get the keel at the front to be any higher. Add another roller further back. This will keep the keel from digging into the trailer untill you get all the way on the bunks. Raising the bunks just makes the bow drop down. You need more support.

as a rule for horizontal (flat) bunk boards I stand a 2x4 upright on the frame and set my bunks to that height, if the bunk boards are vertical mount I use a 2x6 as a set pointthen I put a center roller on every brace from the rear all the way to where the A-frame meets the tongue.

the bunks support the boat and the rollers are mainly just to help center and guide the boat onto the trailer without hitting the frame.

adding the rollers will raise the hull height so you have to raise the bunks to match the new height

Re: Trailer issues

Many of you keep mentioning that I need to put a Roller on the A-Frame. I am not sure if I know where that is. I have attached a picture what I think its the A-Frame
