Well now Ford and GM are teaming up to engineer a ten speed tranny. This should be something. Hope it's an automatic.
Same length of loan?
Well yeah, they're better designed but I thought we were talking about towing and obviously they're still very comparable there.I would say the trucks are a better design than they used to be. Comparing my old 86 chevy to a new one speaks for itself. They are over rated though.
Not going to tow 18000lbs with a truck that weighs 7000lbs. There is a good comment about the towing ratings from someone. he said the ratings are more of a suggestion. If you actually tried to tow 24500 with the F450(for example), the rear end would be overloaded and if you ever got into an accident, insurance would deny your claim. The ratings of these trucks these days are exhaggerated.
Tractors are around 17,000 lbs, empty trailer is around 17,000, and payload maybe at 46,000 lbs. So the total behind the tractor is 63,000 lbs, vs. 17,000 for the tractor for an 80,000 lb max typical legal load. Around 79% total "towed" weight.how much does a semi weigh vs its load?
Also, can't imagine what the cost would be to replace one of those turbos when, not if, the go.
At 50k miles - Never had a problem with mine. Never heard of an inter cooler issue.

Sleepers and day cabs move this around some, but this is a reasonable combo for discussion.
I have heard some very good things about the eco boost but what I can't wrap my head around is if your going to pay that much money for a gas truck why not just bump up to a diesel? The old black sheep rummins will pull just about anything you can legally put on the road and I get darn near 20 mpg when pulling my 19 footer.
I agree, but the load question was asked.I think comparing pickup trucks towing trailers, and semi's towing their trailers, is not an accurate comparison. Semi's are 100% built for towing while even my diesel pickup is not.
cheapest ecoboost equipped f150 is $26000 MSRP.
Cheapest chevy with a diesel is $36000.
Cheapest Ford diesel is $38000.
So at a bare minimum that 'bump' up to a diesel is at least $10,000. (feel free to price them out on the respective web sites, I just did... It isn't really apples to apples because is 1/2 ton vs 3/4, but that isn't the point, its gas vs diesel, and you have to go to 3/4 to get diesel.) Again, this is msrp, not counting dealer specials, rebates, government subsidies, etc...)
Wow I guess I didn't realize you could get an Ecoboost for that cheap.
