Good morning I have a 2000 trophey wa good boat , I need to repower currently running 120 force , Would a 225 hp evinrude be to much for the transome ? If so what would be the max ? I have the manual for the boat it does not say . The boat needs more power . Thanks Pete .

I had a 2000 Trophy two years ago. It is rated for a 175 HP outboard.

pete ... you did not state model or boat length, but my guess is ... if it is a walk-around then you are probably rated for much more horse power than just a 175 ... look up your model boat on trophy's web site for the specifications and that will give you your max HP

Pete, I bet your boat is a model 2002FF which would make it 20 feet, 1 inch in length which means it was not required to have a capacity plate on it (although some did anyway). You can verify the model by looking at the HIN number on the starboard side of the transom. It will have FF in the number. With a 175HP engine, you should get about 46-47MPH with a 19 pitch aluminum prop. I used to run a 17 pitch stainless prop.

Scroll down mid-page and you'll see the capacity plate for a 1999 Trophy 2002FF which shows 175HP as max power engine. Yours will be the same:

I have the 2001 version...same boat. I put the 135 Opti on mine after reviewing a chart comparing the 135,150 and 175 Optis on that boat. The 135 costs less with very little difference in performance but better mpg's and runs cleaner and greener. I have over 700 hours on it now and have never been dissapointed with the performance. Hello Trophy Boy . My 120 force works fine with 2 people . 4 people it would be dangerous in a storm high winds . I tend to stay out on water when it gets rough . Would 135 opti have the guts for this ? I like to save money on fuel but not compromise saftey . As many of us are aware you need power to move the hevier boats in rough seas . If any body has any imput on this it would be appreciated new motors are not cheep . Thanks Pete .

Hi Pete, theres a big difference between the Opti and the Force. Although I usually fish with one or two others because it gets a little crowded, I frequently go offshore in the Pacific with a full tank of gas, 80 gals. Like I said, I've had no performance issues...the boat will hit close to 40 and sips gas. The only mechanical issue I've had with the motor is a low pressure fuel pump that failed and was overheating and that was three years ago. One other consideration is your rigging. I don't know where you're from but if you're in the SF Bay area I'd be happy to show you what it can do. . Let me know if I can help further.

Good Morning Trophey Boy . IT sounds like 135 opti could be the one . What pitch prop ? and with 3 people what kind of mph could I expect ? What year motor do you have ? I generaly run pretty heavy kikker motor down riggers fuel tanks full 5 bags ice food for 3 / beverages 4 tackel boxes , you get the idea , THANKS PETE

If you have a kicker hanging off the back I'd go with the 175 its just going to cost you a little more all the way around. I went with Vessel Assist instead since the 135 trolls so well. The 175 might not troll slow enough requiring you to use the kicker to troll which would suck. I have two props a 14 1/2X19 and 15 X 17. I don't see a big difference in the two, the boat still goes close to 40 and trolls slow enough. I picked mine up with 1 year on it and 175 hours from iboats with a warranty for around 6K.
