lmao cpj... go to redding CA it just might. I would have slept in my car but my rule of thumb is that I need to be clean and respectable looking on the days I have to work lol... so I only really get hotel roooms on the nights before work.... this was the only one available.... now you know hwy I want a baby tear drop camper

now, a floating teardrop camper... now thats recreational
Hey Wimperdink,

Take a look on the web. I few years back I remember seeing a few different plans to build the classic tear drop camper. Pretty simple design, but it can get as complicated as you want to build features into it. Or as large as you want to make it.

Always thought they were neat.
I've actually looked at a few and got lots of ideas from them... only thing is I wont be able to follow specific plans because of the dimensions of the framework i'm using. I'll build this from imagination and pictures
Wimp, that wheel is off a Datsun/Nissan Z car like an old 260Z or 280Z.

As a side note, had a 280z once, man that car would fly...... Had 140 on the speedo and I was told by the person that ended up with claimed that it would get really close to pegging it I think he got scared of it at 120-130 They crashed it at a slow speed and totaled it not long after...
Wimper you might sell those wheels on ebay and get a couple new ones and still come out ahead. Classic Z stuff is like gold. I thought you were kidding when you asked what the wheels were off of. It was obvious to me, for some reason I've been surrounded by those cars all my life. I've never owned one but know about a dozen people at least who have. If the rear end is from the same car there you might have some more bucks coming!

You ever see the trailers people make by cutting a front wheel drive car in half? Kinda neat!
not just front wheel drive cars.... Over here, nothing is sacred. I saw a Mercedes trailer the other day, an older model (200SL I think), cut between the front and back doors, and the roof cut off. Looked pretty good.
I would guess this rear end matches the wheels but I dont know... how many older vehicles w ith that width of rear end had only 4 lugs?
and yes calico I made a minivan trailer... cut the whole front end off just behind the front doors and my buddy (a body man by trade) coverd the front in... and welded a hitch on it... it was one of those dust buster vans. I dont really care what wheels I get but I dont wanna swap out the rear end cause this frame was kinda built around that rear end. how would I know what to look for on the rear end to know if it was from a Z?
Must be a number stamped into the axle case somewhere. That or compare the differential cover to those on Zs in your neighborhood.

Dust buster van funny, we call those lumina vans the same here!
I'd drop the rear end ..and replace it with a regular trailer axle... just for ****s and giggles I guess...

I'd be more opt to do it if I knew I could get more green outta the rear end.... then what a reg trailer axle would be...
I think i'll use this axle as its all set up for it... has real shocks n springs setup... more heavy duty than a regular light trailer axle and I kinda like those wheels... just need to find the other center cap for the other wheel . less work and isnt gonna cost me anything more than just a center cap
Well then you've got a theme you need to stick to... What do you need a 'heavy duty' axle for on a camper? ... oh, that...

BTW those center caps go for around $125.
seriously?
they have z caps on ebay for around 25 bucks but they are just a lil differant
what do you suppose the wheels are worth shined up? there is no real damage or scuffs on them and will shine up easy. I could live with diff wheels lol
I was kidding ya. You might want to check and see what the wheels are going for though. And the rear end. Could fund a nicer setup. Then again maybe not. Those old Zs are classic cars though and people restore them just like the American classics.

Wish me luck! I'm hitting the water (and hopefully not the bottom) in just a few minutes!
Ride her deep CK mlm glug glug glug dont forget to tie some empty bottles to her fore and aft for rescue ability

sheesh already to sea trials and without letting us see the whole thing... get pictures of it before it sinks

LOL! It's too nice out right now to be messing around with resizing my pictures etc. It did float though, handled about like I expected and was the tippiest canoe I've ever paddled. I'll get some pictures posted tonight over a beer or two and elaborate on the paddling.
