Re: To Build a Boat (any boat)

Nice CPJ, lol, I will never be able to get the smell out now...

It's looking like the weather should be cool but nice this weekend. Despite all that's going on around here lately I will try and force myself to take a break and put the dug in the lake... after I wash the inside. :D

Pony, sorry if I've asked already, what kind of resin are you using? Epoxy or polyester?

Yeah I'd have liked to be out there sooner but right now it's dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home and I also need to persuade the photographer to come along as my snowbird neighbor just left for Arizona. Plus Mr. Hanky isn't cutting me any slack...

Re: To Build a Boat (any boat)

they're coming... believe me they're coming. I'm a lil on the low side financially so i'm taking it easy on the purchasing or I'd have my kayak started. All this traveling i've done in the past few weeks has been out of savings and its digging a deep hole in my bank account. I did pull a project in that is the beginning of my tear drop camper. (now in the shape of a trike frame with a corvair engine in it) I'll have pics posted soon of the beginning as I snapped a couple of pics in current condition and if I ever get more than one day off at a time i'll get to tearing it down to a usable frame. Know anyone interested in a free corvair engine? JB its a car part... cant buy it on Iboats mega mall. oh and I'm giving it away :D

Hmmmm.... What could I do with an extra engine..... If it was a 302 or 351 Ford, I'd take it off your hands.

Oh well, back to the garage to make more sawdust....

well its smaller and lighter than a 302 or 351 so you could stick it in your croc boat :D

Re: To Build a Boat (any boat)

yep send it to me and include a big tank :D . If it was mine, I would put it under the hood of my truck and mount a tank between the frame rails and run a hose out to the fuel door so you have onboard air. Oh wait... I'm already in the middle of that project too cept i'm using an old air conditioning compressor. :)

Re: To Build a Boat (any boat)

ya know cpj, if your still around, :) I was just pondering your idea with the camoflage idea.

I wonder how that would stand up for the floor of a boat. If you layed down a designed material or even solid color on top of your resin soaked wood, then put on another coat of resin, let it cure then sand smooth, then spray with a UV prot clear coat and sprinkled some kind of grit for traction. ya think it would hold up to foot traffic? The epoxy resin I mean? is there any kind of clear coat durable enough for this?

I think that the epoxy would be durable enough, the clear coat, I dont know. but dont ask me, it wasnt till reading this and other threads that I learned that the poly and the epoxy isnt uv resistent.

Man... Been gone 2 days to return to find out it's back to a page a day.... I need to come up with something.... I beleive the epoxy/poly will film over, making it not so see through, but other then that I'm not sure....

Re: To Build a Boat (any boat)

welcome back Dave, I thought you might have fallen off the face of the cyberworld. Did you go pick up your pallet boat in need of a transom and corner posts with the free motor? :D I might have to find something durable enough for foot traffic that would protect the epoxy from fogging out. Sure would be easy to clean.

Re: To Build a Boat (any boat)

hey folks... I'm looking at a chrysler 250 9.9 hp thats very clean looking... has all controls, wiring, and ignition panel, gas lines and fittings, and the works included... says it ran well last year and hasnt been started since. In your opinions, is it worth 350?

Re: To Build a Boat (any boat)

Doesn't seem bad for all it comes with... but thats my opinion

Nope not yet.... hope to get it before the job thing happens...lol those things always find a way of interupting fun....

been lookin at svensons plans again... I like the sport, but if I could find something more like a fishing boat (john, sea king, or skiff)... that I could rig up controls and steering, and would hold the 40... I'd go for that over the sport...It would have to be pretty good length but light weight as well...oh and not collapse at WOT :D in fact it seems almost P.. P.. P.. P.. P.. P.... Prrrrraccticccaaaaalll and all since I have a play boat... I think a fishin boat would make it a work boat right??? fishins work right???
