Hello all,

I have to take off My flywheel to replace the Stator and if the flywheel is keyed will I have to retime it or can I just put the flywheel back on by lining up the slots for the key? Also I'm having problems finding a Advance Module does anyone know where I can find one? Mercury says it unavailble on their website.

What HP motor? Most Mercs of that year have a "W" shaped key that aligns the flywheel. As long as you pull the large flywheel nut and then the flywheel, and put the stator on exactly as it came off, the timing should be unaffected.

of course, it would make sense for you to learn how to check the timing, as most shops will not work on those.

When you say "advance Module", do you mean idle stabilizer or trigger? Idle stabilizers can be removed. Triggers are necessary.

Thyank You Chris. It's a 1986 175 hp Mariner. Chris I'm not sure it has 3 wires coming out of it and all it says is advance module enclosed is a pictues

1) Is this module bad?
2) It advances the timing of switchboxes by varying the ohms resistance of bias circuit in switchboxes.
3) Really dont need it....just set timing at 22° cranking and go.
